just found out that i have type 2 Diabetes
hey all-
Just found out that I am type 2 diabetic.Not happy at all. I'm on medication and my numbers are better.My morning numbers are high though. I will go back early Feb to see how the numbers are doing. I'm trying to find diabetic diets on the computer,but im having such a hard time finding anything. I could see a nutritionist but my dr tells me its a waste. I have seen something about counting carbs and i know 15 g is one carb, but how do i know how many carbs i am allowed per day? The whole thing confuses me! OK well if anyone has any info or can steer me in the right direction i would greatly appreciate it!

I think you should re think what your doctor told you and go see a Registered Dietitian who is also a Certified Diabetic Educatior (CDE). Diabetic education by an RD is usually covered by insurance. A lot of RD's who are CDE's work with Endocrinologists, not sure if your Dr is an endocrinologist or Primary Care Physician. Good luck!

I agree about seeing a nutritionist. When I had gestational diabetes, I went to one and she was great. She gave me a whole diet, explained dietary exchanges, and a whole folder of info. Not sure where you are located, but if you are interested in her info FM me and I will dig it up.

My father is a Type II diabetic and has been for about 15+ years. I also recommend you seeing a nutritionist just simply to even educate yourself on various foods and how they affect your body. It will be trial and error in the beginning with food and medication to get your numbers right. My father finds he can't eat carbs after 7 pm or his numbers are too high in the morning.

I agree!! When our PCP diagnosed DH with Type 2, he sent him to the RD within the practice.
