Just got my prep schedule and my kids don't have gym
 And they are going to be pi$$ed! I am 4th grade so they gave me Science 3x a week

Isn't gym mandated? If I have to test a child for CSE, I cannot take them out of gym to do it. Maybe you can check somewhere online to see if they have to have gym. I know one year my kids did not have Art, but they always had gym.

I am 4th grade too....my kids have science 4 days a week and gym once....but get this I teach gym
We have a teacher for science so I don't teach that

I presume that you teach in NYC. I taught there for 4 years and my kids never had gym or recess. AND we were not allowed to take them out for various reasons. I don't know how they get away with it really because it is mandated.

I teach 4th in queens. We have 50 minute periods. I have gym for 50 minutes and science for 100 minutes. The first 50 minutes of science I co-teach with sci. teacher and then the kids stay for 50 more minutes.
Moe- you teach gym, wow do all teachers teach it or just 4th grade teachers. How can they get away with that your not certified in gym?

 Yeah right!
ETA..I don't know how NYC gets away with it BUT then again I don't know how they get away with a lot of things

We do not have the facilities for gym three times per week. Our gym doubles as our lunch room. Ugh.
I don't have gym either. But I do have Drama twice per week.

Also, if you only have one gym teacher, and his/her schedule is full, you don't have to get gym. They cannot warrant hiring another gym teacher unless it is something like 8 more classes at least need gym.

hahah NYC does what they want!!
some classes only end up getting gym 1/2 a year in my building.
I thought it was mandated too but its NYC

You can teach one class out of your certification, hence why they were nice enough to let me teach a chem class this year. So much prepping for 45 minutes.

If I were you I would incorporate it myself. Even if it is just extra playground time or something. It is mandated and the kids need it.
