Just heared the craziest thing- Shower related
So there's another girl @ work prego (she works different shift) One of the girls is "throwing" her a Shower- at a local resturaunt and actually put in the invitation $22 per person!   I have never been to a Shower where I had to pay!!! Is it me or is this INSANE?!

I don't think there are words for that If she wanted people to contribute, she should have spoken with people personally. It should not have gone on the invite!

when we do a party for someone at work- wedding, baby, or going away- we usually ask for $$ for lunch/gift but its usually held at work- so its not that bad- or maybe the people that I work with are super tacky too lol

I know they do that for retirement partys...I guess whoever wants to go and pay just goes.

That's crazy! If you take on a shower, you need to know that you will probably have to take on some financial piece. If she didn't want that much of a cost, then she shouldn't have had it at a restaurant, sheesh!

sounds normal for a "work" shower
I am assuming this is just the people from work- and not outside guests
I have been to many of these "work" showers and I have always paid
otherwise we would just do a cake at the office and a group gift

I can totally understand if it was done @ work- we ususally collect or everyone brings something when we do these kind of parties- but to be off site and make it seam like u are "hosting" and then want to collect just screams tacky to me

For our work showers, we typically all go out to a restaurant outside of work and split the bill, but it is a understanding between all of us.
It's not like we got an invite and were told later we had to pay.

We do the same thing for work showers. I am a teacher and we always have a ton. Bridal and baby

I think that's normal for a work shower. Same with work birthdays, etc. I can understand that too. It's nice to have someone care enough to arrange the get-together but they shouldn't be expected to foot the entire bill.
I've never received a formal written invite to them but the emails have always stated how much it will be per person. In more recent years, we've done potlucks or just cake in the conference room. We'd contribute money toward the cake too.

Every work shower I have ever been to we each paid our own way. I do not see an issue with it at all. Just because your co-worker offered her time to organize the shower doesn't mean she should have to foot the bill.
