Just put my stepdads house on the market today
So my stepdad passed away 2 months ago and left my sister and I everything. He has a house with a hefty mortgage still on it and a lot of bills so we are really worried about a lot of things and there is a lot of work to do with the estate, this stuff is SO stressful. Well today, I just signed all the papers and it is officially on the market. I PRAY that it sells fast because of this mortgage still on it. Everyone keeps telling me that it will be okay but I keep having nightmares of the bank taking it away before it sells and all the hard work that he put into it would be wasted. It's so sad because we grew up there and his heart and sole was in that house, he was a contractor so everything was meticulously done up to his standards and now it's going to be out of our lives forever, this is just one more step in realizing he's gone forever and every step is a hard one :( ugh

That stinks. I'm sorry for your loss and I'm really sorry you have all this stress on you.
Like the PP said, post a link on here to the house. Lots of ladies on here are looking. I hope it sells fast for you!

i am so sorry for your loss.
my DH was in the same situation with his parents.. they left him and his brother the estate, which needed lots of work.
we just needed to sell it asap. so we just had a bargain of a price.. it went faster than i ever would have thought.
i know exactly how you feel about the stress of it, there is so much on your shoulders.

It can be really emotional. I watched my father sell my grandfather's house, which he helped to build (he still talks about digging the hole for the cesspool) in 1947!
I hope the right buyer comes around for you, so you can feel at peace about it.

I'm going through the same situation, my mother passed away a few months ago. It's not easy. You have my sympathy. So much to clear out, so many decisions to make - and a wretched mortgage to worry about.
Have your lawyer write the mortgage company and ask for proof that it holds the mortgage. I've done that. So many mortgages were sold and passed along. The company that contacted me is not the one a title searcher found listed on the mortgage currently. Similar name, but not the same. We've asked for proof. It's made the bank mad, but I don't care, nor does my lawyer. When the house sells I want to know the one I settle up with is the correct owner of the mortgage.
