just wanted to share some advice...BF related...
i actually had the luck of having someone (my cousin) in my life to encourage breastfeeding...to prepare me that there IS pain in the beginning, that having all that milk hurts...i had someone to tell me to chafe my nipples in the shower for about a month before her birth, to toughen them up, to go out and get a tube of that lanolin creme ahead of time....her prepping me and telling me that it gets EASIER and EASIER made me get thru the first couple weeks...i was prepared for the pain, the frustration of hannah not latching to the left as well as the right, the tears when it just simply BURNED when she started eating....but within a couple week, i promise, it was cake...i leanred how to feed her laying down, so now i didnt even have to get UP!
so i wish everyone had a cousin like i did, but if u dont, thats why i am posting this...hope it helps anyone who is kind of on the fence about it or anyone who is nervous or anyone who says "well, ill TRY"... you CAN do it!
and we are here to help!

Thank you. I am sure some don't know what to expect and think something is wrong when it hurts that bad or doesn't work. It's good to know it does get easier!

You should also know that not everyone has pain. I never had any pain with BFing. Well, until DS got teeth and bit me!

It might be TMI, but would you mind going into any more detail about this chafing the nipples and lanolin cream? I plan to BF and am a little nervous about it... all the detailed info. I can get makes me feel better!

Great advise I also wanted to add that you should get a breast pump. I didn't because I wanted to wait to see which one would work best for me once BF was established but on day 5 when my milk came in DD wouldn't latch on and freaked at the touch of my breast. She just wailed & wailed. Long story short she wouldn't latch on anymore and I wasn't able to BF. It KILED me. I thought I was prepared.
Also take a class you can never have enough info!

ITA!! I did not have one problem with BFing...no pain, no chaifing, no pain from engorgment, no sore or cracked nipples. It actually was the easiest thing I did... so not everyone goes through it.
I agree with you, having someone there was so important. My sister is a La Leche leader and she was a godsend throughout it all!

Re: just wanted to share some advice...BF related...
Most of us did experience pain...but I don't think thats the reason why most women stop BF...I think its more of a latching and committment issues...in either event it is definitely a great idea to get the Lansinoh cream for nursing mothers and apply it after each nursing session...and trust me, BF does get easier! And of course we're here to help. There are a lot of knowledgeable and experienced mommies that BF that will offer you the advice...just try to stick it out the first few weeks.

luckily my SIL told me all about it. maybe in a little too much detail. she described it as the same pain as having a cold sore in your mouth and rubbing salt into it!! OUCH!
