Just wanted to share what the ped said about Megans speech yesterday!
Just wanted to share..
I was really nervous about Megans speech. Although she does say words (cup, cat, mama, dada, bubble, choo choo, go, up, juice, shoes, socks, Kim, quack, moo) I didnt feel as if she had enough words at 18 months. So we went to the ped for our checkup yesterday. I voiced my concerns and she told me not to worry at all. I told her that she understands EVERYTHING, knows all her body parts, knows the colors blue and red, knows some animal sounds, will do what we tell her and understands no very well. She also shakes her head yes and no at the right times, when she wants or doesnt want something. She said the word explosion usually comes between 18 months and 2 years, give or take. She said theres nothing to worry about if she is understanding most everything.
I was SO relieved. It was funny too because when we got home yesterday she started saying Boo Boo (her shots on her legs) and tada! I was so happy. I know as mommies, we all worry all the time about everything. I was very worried she wasnt speaking enough but apparently she is doing just fine. So if anyone else had any worries about this, maybe this will help put your mind at ease a little bit. And thank you to 04bride (Noel) for always making me calm down and put things in perspective..it helps so much to have such a calm friend to help out this anxious Mom over here!

Re: Just wanted to share what the ped said about Megans speech yesterday!
I'm glad to hear the ped thinks she is fine. If she understands what everyone else is saying, she is probably fine and will speak more in her own time.
My sister did not really talk to us (she had her own baby language, but not English) until she went to preschool. My mother freaked out of course, and worried that there was something wrong with her, but after various tests, it was determined she was fine. She could understand us just fine. When she went to PreK, she started speaking overnight.
