Just went back to my old job
They gave me a position that someone left and gave my old job to my replacement I was only gone a semester for maternity leave and now I have to set up a whole new office that the guy who left had trashed. He was such a slob! Nice too, to give my leave replacement the option of starting in the new position or keeping mine but yet, didn't even ASK me! She also dumped anything from my office that she didn't want and cleaned out her own. I am sooooo pizzed.
Their excuse was they didn't know if I would get pregnant again soon after DD and didn't want to have to have another leave replacement for my group. Very illegal to give my job away but they gave me the same position so technically they are covered.
So much for my job being secure while on maternity leave Now I REALLY don't want to go back to work.

Re: Just went back to my old job
I'm so sorry! Is it a whole new position? Are you tenured? The whole thing doesn't seem right to me. You have the seniority so you would get first dibs on the position. For me they could pu tme in any grade, but it would still be the same position.
I know how hard going back is going to be for you to begin with. I'm sorry you have to deal with this too!

Re: Just went back to my old job
That does stink and I do agree with pp... you have seniority so even if it is the same dept/position shouldn't you have the say in what group you get?
I know it works that way in my dept. Even with my time off I'll still have seniority over the majority of my dept so I'll have more of a say in what preps I get.
Well, again, maybe this is sign and you WILL get pregnant soon again It might just work out in your favor in the end.

Re: Just went back to my old job
I feel you. And protected leave is a joke. I got laid off 2 weeks after my DS was born There are a ton of loopholes.

While they did give you your job back, it sounds discriminatory to me. If you were a male on leave, they wouldn't be projecting a future leave.
Have to say this would be the LAST thing I would say to an employee - ESPECIALLY a California one.

It only gets better- I actually sat down with my leave replacement and she informed me off all the stuff they said while I was gone to her- like I was planning on having two so I would be leaving this group of kids in the lurch again, that any adjuct duty that no one wanted they just pushed off on me since I wasn't there to defend myself in the meeting, etc.
I called my boss to set up a meeting- once I saw the difference in the amount of work I am expected to do compared to one of our "complaining" collegues. I am SO ****** I could almost quit- if I didn't have to pay a mortgage.
But I am going to confront her on people telling me that she said I planning on getting pregnant again- that is NO ONE'S business but MINE! And if there isn't an equal distribution of work, I will be getting the union involved. This is enough!
