Just went to breastfeeding class...

The teacher said to return the bottle warmer if you bought one b/c it is spoiling the baby to serve it warm milk and it will be more difficult to introduce other foods in later when it's had months of warm milk. My DH disagrees and says he wouldn't want to pull the bottle out of the fridge and wait 15 minutes for it to get to room temp. when the baby is crying. Any opinions?

My opinion is the woman is right....what happens when you are out and need to feed the baby a bottle. I always thought that room temp is the BEST temp for bottles to get them used to it....what I do is I leave the filtered water on the counter so when I make the bottle, they are room temp

If I do have the formula or breast milk in the fridge, I just run in under hot water to get the chill out, but I do NOT warm it up too much

Re: Just went to breastfeeding class...

I have a bottle warmer and usually use it to warm bedtime bottles (I figure warm milk used to calm us as kids)... if the bottle is SUPER cold I'll warm it up, if not, I just give them to him cold.

I love my bottle warmer:

As a note... this just gets bottles room temp/slightly warmer in under 2 mins.

I can see her point but I personally will keep and use my bottle warmer. I agree with the poster above - I think room temperature is perfect so I might use it to just take the chill off of it.

I figure if my baby is breastfeeding - he's used to warm milk anyway but I understand that we are talking about the bottle. I like the room temp suggestion.

Hmmm. This is a tricky one. I put a bottle warmer on my registry. I think warm milk is better for the baby. But room temperature is probably good as well. I just always thought you needed to warm up the bottle.

Re: Just went to breastfeeding class...

I was told to just run it under the hot water of the faucet or wait 15 minutes.

I took my $80.00 bottle warmer out of my registry.

I agree with room temperature for BM. If you heat it too much it messes up the makeup of the milk.

I never used a bottle warmer - always ran it under hot water. I agree you don't need it but I've always given the babies warm or room temperature milk.
Even if I was out I would take an insulator bag and keep boiling water in separate bottles so my milk would be warm.

I used a bottle warmer, I used to take pumped BM in a cooler bag up to bed with me, I warmed it up slightlly in the bottle warmer just to take the chill off, also with BM the fat rises to the top and congeals and you need to warm it slightly to mix it up again. BM is incredibly fatty. To be honest, I borrowed a bottle warmer from a friend, I wouldn't have spent the money to buy one. Now the kid is 15 months and he will drink either warm or cold milk. He doesn't care!!
IMO the wipes warmer is pointless!
