Just when you thought hybrid/remote learning couldn’t get worse...
... they introduce the recorder. The recorder that can only be played at home because they are not allowed to play it in the classroom and it’s too cold to go outside.

I thought recorder was bad until DD started the clarinet. That is LOUD. They hit some bad notes on that and your neighbors will hear it. Lol. Dd hates practicing it though and this year I'm not pushing it for purely selfish reasons. She is allowed to play it in school though so every Wednesday she has a lesson in school and they did a virtual concert that the teacher recorded for us to watch at home.

I can raise you a clarinet for a saxophone . I don’t find it as bad as the recorder but that’s what DS1 took up this year. And he gets to play it one of the two days he goes to school.
At least your DD goes to school every day!

My daughter plays the trumpet. But she is in sixth now so it is much better than when she was first learning it in 4th. I feel for all of you with the recorder.

Oh saxophone is bad too! And yes, the recorder is more high pitched for sure. But when she got the clarinet I was suprised at how much LOUDER it was. Either way them learning and instrument is torture for parents. Punishment for sins in a past life or something!

This! My son is in 6th and plays trumpet.
Hated the recorder. They got it in 3rd grade. My younger son was given the recorder last year when he was in 3rd in March right before they shut down!
It's a phase though. They get bored of it soon. My son does trumpet in his room when he does band class. He does sound good, but even with the door closed the dog runs. LOL

My son plays the sax in our guest room with the door closed. Thankfully band usually lines up with my 3rd graders daily "special" so it's not so distracting for him.

I raise you all with a trumpet player who is learning the guitar and has at-home school lessons the one day I can sleep late.
AND
a non-musical husband who developed a guitar hobby and is teaching himself how to play the electric guitar and bass.
