Just wondering...Can you give a 11 month old cough medicine?
I am going to call the dr but since they are not open yet I figured I would just see what everyone says....

I was told no. Use steam therapy, a cold mist humidifier, and put baby safe vicks on the bottoms of your DC feet.

I was told no...even now at 18 months my son doesn't get any cold medicine.
I give him:
Tylenol to comfort Run the cool mist humidifier Pillow (but he's older - before I would prop up the mattress) Vicks baby rub on his back, chest and feet

Yep. It is supposedly safer than putting it near their mouth or eyes, and works pretty well. Our Ped has some cool home remedy tricks that she has shared with us.

Sophia's Dr. says no.
Its so sad when they are sick and there is nothing we can do to make it better.

I use the infants tylenol or motrin if needed. My dr. is fine with it.

Wasn't there a massive recall on all children's cold medicine last year because it's just not safe for infants/toddlers?

I give my boys cough medicine if they need it..robitussin usually. My doctor's philosophy is "Why make them suffer?"

same here. as long as you use the correct dose there is no problem
all the "hysteria" was due to parents giving their children too much
I have given miki cold meds when she really needs them

This is true, the problem wasn't with the medication, it was with dosage and overuse. I haven't given to Claire, but I would think you could treat it like tylenol or motrin and call you ped for the correct dosage. If your ped is uncomfortable or thinks it is unnecessary, they'll tell you when you call.

I guess at the end of the day, you as the parent make the decision. I would if my doctor told me NO WAY to a safe medication to ease my childs pain, when necessary
I am not saying to dope them up every chance you get but you bet your azz if my dd is congested and coughing, I will give her something
I think it is personal preference, there is no right or wrong answer as long as you dose them correctly.
ETA - there is a homeopathic cough syrup - called Chestal honey that I use most of the time....it has nothing harmful in it, tastes like honey and actually helps a bit. I know trader joe's sells it
