k, so where can i buy a nikon? (barb, lorimarie?)
i hear so much about them....right now i have a $400 sony cybershot..i know, its a pretty good camera, but what kind should i get? i know you both have seen a lot of my picture- im not HALF bad behind the camera, but am i getting the BEST shots possible? this camera i have is 8.1 megapixels, has 3X optical zoom, but i just dont know.......hmm, can u let me in on what u think? anyone?

If you're into photography you'll love an SLR (Single Lens Reflex) camera. I have the Nikon D50 (I think Barbara has the D70 - not sure about Lorimarie). They have virtually no shutter lag and as many manual controls as a traditional SLR film camera. You can also change lenses.
As for where to buy, I got mine at Cameta Camera in Amityville - actually bought from their EBay store and picked it up there.
You can also try B&H Photo in the city.
If you have more questions feel free to ask.

I buy my camera & equipment for Nikon D70 at B&H Photo
Loriemarie has the D80. I forgot where she got it.
An SLR is the last camera you'll buy. I think it's worth it particularly since you're into taking pictures now.

WE got our Nikon D50, with 2 lenses and a carry case (package deal) at Costco last May. Not sure if they still have it, but it was $800.
I've also gotten great deals at this online store:

I bought my DH's Nikon D80 as a package deal from Costco last Christmas. It was not cheap, but the pics are so worth it!

I love my d80 - I got it at Best Buy but I'm sure you can get a better deal on it elsewhere.
I bought my last lens from Cameta Camera in Amityville and was super impressed with the salespeople. I highly recommend going there and talking with them. They'll let you try the camera out with different lenses - they're very knowledgeable.

I agree with this they are so knowledgable and nice yo can also get demo stuff which is si worth it.

My Dad did MANY a search and he found them to be the cheapest.
