What would be the criteria for leaving a child back? Any info would be appreciated! Tia!

I hold back my kindergarteners if they cannot read or write. Usually they say they need to be on a level d for reading at the end of the year. K kids that I leave back are usually still on an rebus or a, b level. Also there writing is very poor. Some kids really benefit from being held back in kindergarten that extra year really helps them.

I'm a Kindergarten Teacher. Personally, I don't believe in holding back a Kindergarten child nor does my principal unless there is an extreme case and even then it is rare. I'm very surprised to see that the other poster would hold back a child who's a level B reader.

Half my 1st grade class came in reading on B (some not even on a level) 
That said, I do think there are times it is necessary. some of the students that have come into my class over the years would have benefited from another year of Kindergarten. Those are usually the students struggling with letter sounds, basic counting or adding, not retaining sight words, aren't using the picture to determine the word in the book etc...

I'm considering this as well as my daughters bday is 11/12 so she's the youngest in the class. However, she is doing very well academically but I feel like very immature. I think it depends district to district. I'll keep you posted!

Yes, holding back in elementary school is all parental. the teacher and school can suggest it, but it is ultimately the parents' decision.
I'm a little surprised about the PP who suggests holding back a B. DS#1 was a B at the beginning of first grade. Nothing was ever said to us in K.
He missed 4 months of school that year and wasa D in February. I spoke to some first grade teachers in my district and they said it was low, but not abnormal .
His teacher did suggest to us holding back, so we pushed for him to be in Reading Recovery. By June he was a J...over the summer he was reading L-Ms. (2nd grade goes from K-M and this was the summer before)
If teachers/schools are suggesting holding back, they better have data to back it up. What have they done to help. Have they had a IST meeting? What support have they offered. How have they differentiated lessons?

I teach 1st grade. I really don't believe in leaving a K student back. If by the end of first grade they are still far below level then that is a different story. Ask the school about additional services/interventions to support the child when he/she goes to first grade. Also I would suggest sending the child to a summer reading program. The Principal makes a recommendation but the parents have a say in what happens.
