I was looking at it in the supermarket and it looks interesting. I can't drink milk bc it messes up my stomach but it seems like it has probiotocs? What does it taste like?

Re: kefir

I like it. I buy it from Trader Joe's . I like the strawberry or raspberry think it tastes like yogurt but thicker.

kefir

It is delicious ! The texture is very thick and creamy. I find that the probiotics really settle and soothe my stomach. I recommend Green Valley brand or Lifeway organic brand Kefir - my two favorites.

Kefir is cultured milk. It is super healthy, with protein and probiotics. I think you probably couldn't drink milk-based kefir though if your allergic to milk. They do make alternative kefir (like soy, coconut milk etc) though.

Re: kefir

I can't have milk either and I can't have kefir. SoDelicious makes a coconut milk ice cream that is really good and it doesn't bother my stomach.

I've been wanting to make my own kefir, but haven't gotten a chance to get my hands on some kefir grains. Lifeway kefir is great! Grass fed, no hormones or antibiotics.

Oh and you could do water kefir, if you buy some grains.

I used to make kefir but it has been a while since I last made it. I still have the grains but they are not active and it will take me several tries before i can bring them back to life. I got mine from a nice woman on yahoo kefir group. She sent them for free and didn't even want shipping. as u keep making kefir, grains increase in size. i am going to start making it again soon and if i am able to activate them again, i could share some with you. Lot of people on yahoo kefir board mail you grains for cost of shipping.

What a great idea! Let me know how it works out. My next project is attempting to make my own yogurt.
