My labor and delivery was a whole lot shorter this time around, especially the delivery part. I woke up at 4:30 am and thought I had to pee. I stood up and felt a trickle, went to the bathroom, stood up and felt it again. At that point I knew it was my water, the same thing happened when I went into labor with my 1st DD. The leak got progressively worse and the contractions started. I walked around for a while took a shower, got everything ready for Kayla and to go to the hospital. My dad leaves for work around 5:30 am, I sent him a text to let him know so he wouldn’t go in and could watch my older DD. When my contraction where about 5-6 minutes apart for an hour I called my Dr. and they told me to go to the hospital. I wanted to wait as long as possible because my contractions weren’t bad and I knew they would have to admit me when I got to the hospital because my water broke and I had tested positive for Strep B. When I got to the hospital I was only 2 cm, so they gave me Pitocin. They steadily upped the pitocin and after a few hours the contractions were very close and strong. I asked to be checked and was at 4 almost 5 cm, so I asked for the EPI. Less than 45 minutes after having the EPI, they checked me again and I was 6 cm. The resident on the floor checked me this time and I think she may have been wrong because twenty minutes later I felt intense pain and pressure. I knew I had to push, to the point that I was lying on my side and clenching my legs closed as I waited for the doctor. He got in and checked me, her head was right there crowning. He barely had a chance to get covered up for the birth and I pushed. After three pushes he did a small episiotomy and she was out on the next push. About an hour later my uterus got soft and I started to hemorrhage huge clots. They were worried I would need a blood transfusion. The Dr. gave me more pitocin and a shot of something to help with the bleeding. Luckily the bleeding slowed and I didn’t need further medical intervention. Since I had the bleeding issue, they kept me in L&D for another 6 hours before moving me to the maternity ward. I got to my room at about 1 am… It was all worth it for my second beautiful DD.
