Keratosis Pilaris
My 20 month old son has Keratosis Pilaris on his upper arms and on his face. He has had it since he was pretty young. Apparently this is genetic (i have it on my arms to and have since I was a child). My doctor suggested Lac-hydrin five it doesn't seem to work that great. Anyone have any natural remedies?

Re: Keratosis Pilaris
What is it exactly? I think that might be what DD & I have (little bumps on the skin on her arms, legs & a little bit on her cheeks.)

Re: Keratosis Pilaris
yes little bumps, almost pimple like. they are usually skin color, but sometimes look irritated. I have been looking for information online, but everything I see refers to treatments for adults. When I was a kid they recommended scrubbing area with buff puff, then numerous different abrasives and creams....nothing worked. My sons doctor says there isn't much you can do about it which really sux!

Re: Keratosis Pilaris
Yeah, that's exactly what we have. I remember using the Buff Puff too. DD's ped. told me to try any cream/lotion with alpha hydroxy. So far it hasn't helped at all. My next step was to take her to a dermatologist. My neice has it too & my sister uses something from Sephora on it. I forgot the name. I think it's Cerave. She said it's helped her. Let me know if you find a solution. I know it doesn't bother DD, but it always bothered me (the look of my arms - ick) So I'd like to try to get rid of it for her.

Re: Keratosis Pilaris
yeah the creams my pediatrician told me about never worked. It bothered me sometimes growing up, but its on my sons face so i really want to try and get rid of that. The doctor says he will out grow it to some extent. I read that 50% of my children will have it because I have it.......bummer.

Re: Keratosis Pilaris
I have it too on my arms and legs and so does my mom, so I'm hoping DS will be spared. He's 1 year and doesn't have anything yet, but my mom said mine didn't really show till I was older. As far as I know, the only thing you can do for it is buff and hydrate. There are some creams to use when they get older that help take out some of the appearance, but you can't get rid of it. It stinks, I know.
When they're older, you can also use a scub, like and apricot exfoliator, that has sacylic acid in it and it helps buff the areas too.

I've always used AmLactin for myself. I'm not sure if its approved for babies.
