Ketones in Urine
Hey.
Just got back from my DR's appt. All was fine except she noticed some ketones in my urine. She asked if I ate lunch today. I said yes, but I was stuck in a meeting and ate late.
She said it could be the lack of food and fluids I had today. She just said I have to make sure I do not forget to snack and drink throughout the day.
This is the first time this has happened.
I am 22 weeks today.
Anyone encounter this.

Re: Ketones in Urine
Ketone bodies are produced by the body as a response to 'starvation' (which doesn't have to be a long term state) it can be going without a meal for 3-4 hours. They provide a source of energy to the brain when there is no glucose.
Ketones are what people on the atkins diet strive for because your body will only produce them when you have no carbohydrates inside you and you have used up your glucose stores.
This could have been the result of morning sickness, or just not having had enough to eat that day. Make sure that you eat regularly and have plenty of healthy snacks to keep your sugar levels up.
And very important - stay hydrated!

Re: Ketones in Urine
Thanks so much.
I am thinking this is what happened to me. I did not have my normal 64 ounces of water at work today and I did eat a bit off schedule.
I swear I worry about every little thing witht this pregnancy.
