Kid Nation - did you watch?

We thought it was great, but don't
know if I would allow my child to be on that show.

Some of those kids were really smart.

Re: Kid Nation - did you watch?

I shut it off after 15 minutes.

It's one thing for adults to willingly choose to participate on reality tv and live with the consequences, it's another thing when it's a child.

Going into this, did the parents of that town council boy who wouldn't and couldn't pull a cart want their son to be protrayed on national tv like that???

Re: Kid Nation - did you watch?

I saw it, I thought it was cute. I know a lot of people are against the show, and how the kids are being shown, however, I think just in the first day, it showed how children are capable of doing things on their own, and using the skills they have learned to accomplish tasks. I think it is also a good learning experience for the kids -maybe not the 8 year olds cause they are young- but I think it did make them realize how much adults do for them.

I thought it was cute, i'll tune in next week to see what happens.

Re: Kid Nation - did you watch?

I watched it....DH had to leave the room, he said it is by far the worst show I have ever watched!!Chat Icon

I felt so bad for the youngest little boy.

I am sure I will get sucked into watching it every week even though I cant believe the parents of an 8 year old would let their child do something like that

I thought the show was very interesting!

It really shows how mature some kids are and how they "step-up" and take control.

I really felt bad for the youngest kids...he was such a cutie and everyone wanted him to stay but he was just too homesick.

I was so glad to see that they chose the outhouses rather than the TV!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon that would have been my choice also!!

Re: Kid Nation - did you watch?

DH and I watched it and we thought it was great. The kids really showed their maturity and they pulled together. Plus, they can go home whenever they want. I thought that little boy who left was soooo cute - I really wanted him to stay but he was so homesick. He was so precious! I just wanted to give him a hug. Chat Icon

Re: Kid Nation - did you watch?

I bawled...twice!! First when that poor little boy said he wanted to go home, then everyone told him to stay. Finally he was allowed to go. Second, when the girl who took care of the kitchen got to call her mom. I was so happy for her.

eta: The kids are not truly alone hence their is no violation of New Mexico or Federal child labor laws. There is a full staff of doctors and the adults who run the show. They would never allow true harm on the children and the parents of the children signed waivers.

Re: Kid Nation - did you watch?

I watched it and I thought it was pretty good. I was pretty impressed that the kids were able to work things out among themselves and that they selected the outhouses.

I agree!

Having worked with kids, it just shows what I already learned about how intelligent some childrne really are, more so than some adults.

This show does have a lot of good lessons in it.

I really liked the show. I must say that 8 or 9 is too young for the show. That cute 8 year old was adorable, I wanted him to stay, but really even he knew he was too young for the show. I will watch next week as well.

I loved the way he KNEW he was too young to be there. And that boy who spoke up at the meetings ....amazingly smart!

Re: Kid Nation - did you watch?

I didnot watch this mainly because I kept on thinking about Golding's "Lord of the Flies" and it freaked me out.

That is so funny that you said that, but I watched because of Lord of the Flies . I teach that book and I wanted to see if there were any parallels.

I agree. I wonder how some of my students would do in a situation like that. It is interesting to me!

Re: Kid Nation - did you watch?

POOR JIMMY! how cute is he?

i had mixed feelings... in some ways, i thought it showcased their abilities to work together, solve problems, etc.

in some ways, i thought it bordered on and/or was neglect... i would like to see what happens as it goes on.
