Re: Kiddie Academy in Whitestone
My friend's son went there pt 3 days a week for 1/2 day each. She is a teacher and she raved about it. I know she was really picky when looking at places so if she liked it I'd say they are great.

Re: Kiddie Academy in Whitestone
I went to look into putting my DS there.
The place is immaculate - brand new building, clean, great location for dropping off and picking up. I truly was smiling from ear to ear when i took the tour and felt really at ease about sending DS there.
It is SUPER $$ IMO - a bit over priced. I have heard great things about the program from people who have sent their children there. They all had nothing but good things to say and their children were happy.
However, I heard the staff is tough to deal with especially the front staff and director.
They aren't accomodating in any sense. They don't respond to emails in a timely matter, are a bit short and rude about things right off the bat. Instead of trying to do "the right" thing, they basically tell you can go somewhere else if you don't like it.
I have also heard previous staff members left there because of the front office/directors attitude as well.
So that was enought to right them off my list. If there was a problem that came across the table with my DS, I don't want to be given an answer like "I can leave if I don't like their way"
Plus, I heard it from different sources who have no connection to one another. so something makes me think there is some truth to it all.

He is with my mom - I lucked out. She was getting ready to retire and took on the responsibility.
Although, I know she regrets it now - its a lot. She has him and my niece 5 days a week from 630 am to 7:00. She is done, done, done.
They are born 3 days apart and will both be 2. It's like having twins. They are a handful together and we have to be put into some sort of school setting within the next year. I just don't know where to go in Whitestone.

Re: Kiddie Academy in Whitestone
I had my DD there for about a year when she was 2, so that was about 2 years ago. The building and facilities were nice and new, although some of the classrooms were a bit on the small side. When my DD was going there, it was still a new-ish place so they were working out some kinks.
While DD was there, there were 3(!) different directors--that's a lot! Loved the first director but she left for a job closer to her home. The next interim director didn't thrill me and just when I was pulling DD out, a new permanent director was coming on board. Changes in staff were definitely felt in the classroom, I thought. I heard teachers complaining of lack of supplies at one point while directors were changing.
For the most part it was okay. It totally depended on the teacher/classroom, I thought. I loved 2 out of the 3 teachers DD had.
Definitely take a tour when kids are there. Some of the rooms are split in two, with a shared bathroom/changing area. So while it's two classrooms, each with the maximum number of kids allowed in each, the half walls and open bathroom space can make it super loud, IMO.
Also, the location is fine but the street/parking in front of the building can get super crowded at peak times. There is a parking lot under the building but it's pretty small with tight turns.

Look into tiny tots at St. Luke's, it's a program for 2 year olds. My ds loved it!

Like Donna mentioned, look in St. Luke's school in whitestone, they have a 2 year old program called tiny tots and its $1000 from October-May, twice a week for 1.5 hours a day. It's a great way to transition the kids into school. The classes are run by a teacher and an assistant, 8 kids per class.

Thanks, but I need full time care, and we are a long way from 2 - DD isn't even 15 months yet!

I looked them up online and they have a lot of negative reviews.
What area are you looking in? The front runner for us right now is Preschool of America in Fresh Meadows.

oh thanks i will check them out too! I live in forest hills and have had no luck with daycare centers in that area (there is a preschool of america there but i did not like the office staff and i was told it is a year long wait list). i work in the bronx, so i was basically looking anywhere that was between me and either the whitestone bridge or the throgs neck bridge.
if you have any other suggestions please let me know.

Funny - DH is starting a job in the Bronx, which is why we are looking in that area too!

Re: Kiddie Academy in Whitestone
My DD is in tutor time of bayside, it was just actually renamed to Ivy league early learning academy. She's only 5 mo so I can't really speak to how the older classes are ran but the infant room is great.
