kids amaze me...

I'm doing a science fair with 4th gr... On Dec 7 I gave them the instruction to begin their experiment at home. They were due today, along with a graph or table of the data they collected (we planned them out individually together... everything was spoonfed). We get a note today from a mom who can't understand why the crystals didn't grow. She enclosed photos to prove that the kid had done the experiment but that there was nothing to graph or measure. The other teacher and I look at each other and finally I say, "XYZ, when did you start the experiment?" ... look of confusion... counting on fingers... "um, the day after New Year's Eve".... Aha! Did mom expect the crystals to spontaneously appear?? Oy...

I just picked up a sign in the dollar bin at Target that says "A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine"... I so want to hang it! lol

Ugggh- I know what you mean. I teach high school AP classes and gave a really small (one handout) assignment over the vacation and only a handful out of 50 actually did it. I was really upset-- such a lack of effort or caring-- and these are AP students!!!
