STONY BROOK, N.Y., June 17, 2008 - On Wednesday, July 9, from 10 am to 3 pm, Stony Brook University Medical Center hosts its free annual Kids' Health & Safety Expo at Flowerfield, 199 Mills Pond Road in St. James. As always the focus is on health, safety and fun, and this year's Expo promises to deliver a bundle of it with two appearances of the Silly Magician, and a "Go Active" workout with Ronald McDonald.
On the serious side, a must-see presentation at noon, "I Am the Boss of My Body" by Parents for Megan's Law is meant to empower children; to help them "be the boss of their bodies," and take ownership of the right to keep themselves safe.

Families will learn from experts about kid's health, wellness, and injury prevention, and can visit two rooms of exhibitors representing Stony Brook University Hospital including the Burn Center's "Burn House," and "Sparky the Fire Dog." Free dental screenings and proper brushing techniques will be demonstrated by Stony Brook University's School of Dental Medicine's brushing-puppets who provide children with toothpaste, a toothbrush and a special prize.

For those who need health care, representatives from the Elsie Owens North Brookhaven Health Care Center, and New York State Department of Health insurance programs, Child Health Plus and Family Health Plus, will be on hand to offer guidance.
