Kids in Office Vent
Why do people feel the need to bring their kids to the office during working hours
This is an office, not a nursery
Thank God for doors

Re: Kids in Office Vent
yeah, I am not sure how I feel about it. I am very surprised that it still goes on. I love seeing my coworkers kids for the first 15 minutes because they are so cute, but after 2 hours, the kids get restless and it is distracting. I can see on a parent's day off, bringing the kids so people can see them, then leaving.

Re: Kids in Office Vent
For some reason, there have been a ton of kids in my office the past 2 weeks. Most of them are very well behaved but its kind of odd to be sitting here and hearing a kid scream or some running every now and then.

Re: Kids in Office Vent
If it is a banker's kid coming and the nanny sticks around then I think that is different. If it is an assistant here with her 1 year old, then that is where it gets to be too much.

It drives me crazy too...I was just mentioning this to one of my co workers....I dont mind when people birng older kids in because they are usually quiet, but when they bring their babies in and the baby is crying all day, that is just not right and it shouldnt be allowed.

I agree. When the attorneys bring their kids in, usually their mom is with them or the nanny.. so you hardly notice them past the "ohh he/she is so cute" sort of thing
But yes I have noticed a LOT of people brining in their kids, and lately it is driving me crazy for some reason Mainly becaus e when the AAs bring the kids in, there is NO controling them .. (not the kids fault, they get bored after 10 minutes at a stuffy old lawfirm)

Re: Kids in Office Vent
Another thing is, I think it depends on the type of workplace. I dont think mine is too exciting for kids - its just a bunch of cubicles and offices - nothing even remotely pretty to look at!
I rememember when my mom took me to work with her, shes a school nurse so at least it was halfway fun.

Re: Kids in Office Vent
I always feel bad for the 7-11 kids in my neighborhood. I guess maybe their parents own it-but these same 3 kids are ALWAYS stuck in the 7-11. I would go crazy.
Also see it in pizzerias too. I would be so bored.

Re: Kids in Office Vent
I don't understand this? People actually bring babies to work? On a regular basis (or enough to annoy everyone?)
I'm confused.
I probably work in the most paradoxal (is that word?) Big, huge company but also no rules about dress code, lateness, time off ect. And there are NEVER kids here. I wish there were!!

Re: Kids in Office Vent
My boss does that &her son destroys the office & especially my desk!!! If you feel the urge to this keep it to a few minutes & teach the kids to keep their hands to themselves or in their pockets.

Re: Kids in Office Vent
People bring their kids every now and then. I was surprised too. not a kid friendly atmosphere at all. I am in the WFC in an Investment banking company. Like tomorrow, since we are here for a half day, there are going to be tons of kids.

Re: Kids in Office Vent
Our office cleaning lady brought her kid in yesterday. She does that occasionaly when she has no one to watch him, but he is about 9 or so, so he helps empty the trash & then plays with his gameboy.
Our boss used to bring his 2 kids in on their school breaks, and have them read or do homework in his offce or in the summer, give them little jobs around the office, but they usually ended up fighting with each other.

Re: Kids in Office Vent
I cannot stand it.
If they are behaved, thats fine, if they sit and color and are quiet - great. But when they run around like its romper room I cant stand it! And GOD FORBID the parents repremand them.

We must work for the same boss. His kids destroyed a report I had put together last week or the week before. It was all original paperwork that I had put together and was stepping out for a meeting. When I came back I planned on making copies. Well that went out the window when I had to sit there and white out all the stamps that were all over it. What does my boss do....NOTHING!!!!!!!

Re: Kids in Office Vent
I am bringin my baby to work tomorrow! (and yes since it is a half day) And I work in a NYC office.
So far everyone is so excited to meet him!!!!!! I don't mind when people do it here and there - I think it is actually nice that a company will help promote a family life.

Re: Kids in Office Vent
My office kinda has an unofficial half day is an okay kid day policy. Most of the kids are good.
When parents bring kids in on other days as a brief visit that is fine too, but I would be upset if people brought kids in all the time for the whole day.

Re: Kids in Office Vent
I hate this shyt.
Other people's bratty kids annoy the crap out of me in general.
I come to work for some peace and quiet sometimes. And if somebody brings their goddam kids in... i even lose that.
