kids with eye patches
I was just informed that my 3 year old needs to wear an eye patch for 2 hours a day for 6 months to start. If this does not straighten out his eye he will need surgery. My heart breaks for him.Now i bought a patch for myself too so he wont feel different when we are out in public.Has anyone dealt with this issue?I am new to this site, thanks !!!

Re: kids with eye patches
A coworker has to do that for his twin boys. Does the 2 hours have to be while you're out of the house? My friend usually does that early in the morning, before they have to do their chores.
BTW, it is definitely helping both boys. The patch treatment has being making a marked improvement in both boys, so hopefully DS won't need surgery!

Re: kids with eye patches
My BIL had eye problems when he was younger and was supposed to wear the patch over his eye to correct it, but he refused. His eye never corrected itself, and when he was about 20, he had to have surgery to correct it - and now has little use of that eye. So, while it's tough now to see your baby with a patch - it's certainly worth doing!

I have no advice, but I wanted to say I think it's great that you bought one for yourself...that's so cute. Perhaps you can wear them while you are in the house and not while you are out and about...make a game of it...you can be pirates! You can play and help his eyes get stronger at the same time

Re: kids with eye patches
I was one of those children that needed an eye patch when younger but I had mine in kindergarden and I can still remember the teasing
My only suggestion is to try to make him not feel bad about it and like the other poster said, maybe make it like a game of pirates. He's young and only needs it for a few hours a day so it shouldn't be that bad.

Re: kids with eye patches
My brother wore one for years. I think it is a GREAT idea that you got one too. That's pretty cool of you.
