Kids writing things about you...

I found out that in one of the class set textbooks someone wrote some not nice things about me. I can kind of narrow it down to who it could be and I plan on comparing handwriting because it definitely was not nice.

How would you handle this?

Confront Student? Call Parent? Referral? Or what order shall I say would you do this in?

What grade do you teach? I would normally confront the student first and see if they admit to it.

this happened my first year. The AP got involved, parents were called in, and the student had to pay for the book, plus they got a few days of out of school suspension for "defacing school property".

I'm sure you know this - but if you do plan on confronting the student, make sure you are not alone with them - have another teacher or an administrator with you.
