kind of freaking about telling the boss. Anyone's boss not seem happy when you told them the news?
No one is at work yet so I'm typing fast so sorry for misspellings.
I am 12.5 weeks & I have to tell my office by the end of the day because our holiday party is tomorrow night at a bar & it's going to be hard trying to hide this secret at the party. But I know how my boss is. She'll probably congratulate me & give me that half smile. And I'm sure she'll ask me if I plan on coming back afterwards. I'm actually not planning on going back but what would I say? Yes? or Of course as long as everything goes as planned? I really don't know what I would say. I'm sweating thinking about having to do this.

Good luck - I'm sure that you'll be fine. My boss gave me that 1/2 smile, but had a look of sheer panic in his eyes when he congratulated me for each of my kids. It kind of took away that warm & fuzzy feeling lol He did ask me immediately both times if I was coming back. I did/still am so it was easy for me, but if I were you I'd probably say yes that you are. Any number of things can change between now & then so she'll have to understand if (or I should say "when") you change your answer down the line. In this economy I probably wouldn't take the chance of telling her that you don't plan on returning this early on. Good luck

It's always nerve-wracking telling work. I definitely wouldn't tell them that you're not planning on coming back because a lot could change between now and your due date. I would tell them you don't have any plans to leave your job as of now. Good luck! It's such a relief once it's out in the open.

I too dreaded telling my boss because there is always negativity surrounding previous pregnancies here (very small company) but I just came out and told him, he didn't seem all too thrilled and I really didn't care, I kind of expected that reaction anyway, but everyone else was happy for me, once you come out, you will feel so relieved

You aren't the only one. Even though my boss is a woman and has full grown kids of her own I am terrified. She actually told the head of our marketing department (who has 3 pregnant women on his team) half jokingly that her team knows better than to get pregnant! Worst part is that she told me I am up for a promotion in January so I am holding off telling her until after the holidays. I just don't trust that she will have faith in me to do my job.

Re: kind of freaking about telling the boss. Anyone's boss not seem happy when you told them the news?
Oh it's absolutely nerve wracking...I just did it last week (this is my second baby). I have two bosses...the "big" boss was so great and hugged and kissed me and made a comment about something being in the water (lots of preggos in my dept); the other boss was happy for me but I think dismissed me kind of quick. Whatev.
Anyway-definitely don't even hint that you aren't coming back. Like others have said-anything could happen and you may need to come back.
Good luck! Don't be nervous (although I was shaking telling them...so silly...it's NORMAL for women to have babies! lol).

Re: kind of freaking about telling the boss. Anyone's boss not seem happy when you told them the news?
When I told my boss, I kind of made the mistake of hinting I might not come back. I was only 6w, I felt so sick, I felt so huge and I really couldn't hide it. Looking back I definitely would have waited as long as possible. I would not let them know AT ALL that you might not come back, just say yes of course. I was treated differently, I was given less work and I felt like they were doing me a favor by letting me stay unless I was put on bedrest at 28w and never went back. I tried about 3m PP inquiring about a part time position and was pretty much ignored. It was fine anyway, I didn't really want to go back but I just wish I did things differently.

Re: kind of freaking about telling the boss. Anyone's boss not seem happy when you told them the news?
I haven't told my manager yet for this one.
For DD, she thumped her head on the table when I told her, asked me to fly when I when was over 35 weeks pregnant, and then took a vacation out of the country one week before my due date! She was definitely in denial.
I agree with previous posters; don't say anything yet about not returning to work. So much can change before you deliver and you also don't want them to treat you differently while you are still there.
I am telling my manager next week (new manager thank goodness!)

thanks everyone. I told her & the entire office knew within 10 minutes. Everyone seemed to be happy for me & of course everyone asked if I planned on coming back.
