Kinda dumb question
I was wondering if you don't get a visit from AF each month can you still ovulate. I've been told you can. I've been told you can't. So I don't know which is true. Also, have any of you tried an herbal approach to infertility. I want to try everything possible to get pregnant naturally before seeking the help of a doctor. I was wondering if any of you have ever heard of or tried false unicorn root. I've heard it's really potent and most people who take it get pg right away. Have any of you tried it? I have total faith in herbs because once when i hadn't had AF for like 4 months I took black cohosh and she came like a week afterwards. Just wondering if any of you have ever tried herbs and what your thoughts are on them.

Re: Kinda dumb question
What would concern me would be why you aren't getting your period every month. Do you know why? If you don't, it's actually very important that you try to find out why. There are lots of other things that need to be in place for you to be able to get pregnant and carry a pregnancy aside from just ovulating.

Amanda.. I really think if you are skipping so many periods it wouldnt matter if you can take an herb to bring it on,, you HAVE to find out whats causing you to skip periods.. You really should see a doctor..

Re: Kinda dumb question
To be honest if you aren't getting AF regularly, I think it's best to have hormone testing done. Getting pregnant is definitely a goal but having a healthy pregnancy is more important. Some people don't ovulate regularly due to hormonal reasons and once pregnant these reasons can still exist.
However, if you want to include herbs, I would see a licensed herbologist /acupuncturist. Herbs are medicine and they aren't regulated so taking the wrong ones or too much can do more damage than good.
With that being said, I see a reproductive endocrinologist, will be going back to acupuncture and hopefully be receiving herbs...and I take some on my own.
I do take, alfalfa tablets from AF to O. That alkalizes your cm. I have taken evening primrose oil, from AF to O, because that helps produce more cervical mucus. I try to drink carrot juice and eat carrots around O time Which also alkalizes and helps CM.
I take Flax Seed Oil tablets and bromelain for my 2ww.
I also take B6 complex vitamins that have extra folic acid and baby asprin.
As far as false unicorn root, that won't help ovulation occur....it helps prevent uterine contractions and is given to women who may be miscarrying. It's a uterine tonic. Red Raspberry tea is great to drink and that strengthens the uterus, except in the last trimester when you should stop drinking it.
Vitex (chaste berry) is the natural form of clomid that helps women ovulate. Some women take soy but that can do more damage....
There are a lot of women self medicating themselves and sometimes it's counterproductive.

Re: Kinda dumb question
I have been to a fertility specialist and they found nothing wrong with me. They checked everything. They also gave me progesterone and clomid. Just to try and help things along. It made me have my period but no luck in conception. It's really unexplained. I was even pregnant once before. 4 years ago which resulted in miscarriage. I really think it's from smoking. My period was always on time every month, same day, everything until I started smoking. The first month I started smoking I didn't get one. Like I said I am trying to quit but it is very hard and frustrating. But I have cut down a lot. And know it's not long until they are completely gone. But I really think I'm going to see an herbalist.

Go see another RE and get a second opinion. There's a reason you aren't getting your period and not ovulating. I was a smoker and had very regular periods; it might have something to do with it but smoking won't alter your hormones.
ETA: Don't acccept "unexplained fertility" as an answer. I think that is a cop out answer to begin with. There is a reason for everything, you just need to find the right people to help you find that reason.
