Kindergatren cutoffs

Has any one ever enrolled their child in kindergarten before the cut off date/ earlier than they should attend? Did they suffer in school or were they ready for kindergarten and caught up to their peers? Thanks for your input

DD didn't start earlier than she should, but her bday is 11/29 and district cutoff is 12/1.

She is doing great!

My sister lives in South Carolina and the children can take a special test to start Kindergarten earlier than the cutoff. Well out of the 100 children that took the test only 3 were allowed to go early and her daughter was one of them. She was over the moon and super excited! Flash forward to the first few weeks of school. My sister said the day was so long for her daughter that she fell asleep on the bus and she had to go on and get her. Now her daughter who was always the brightest in her class is struggling and has to go to extra help. My sister is sad she pushed her and wished she would have waited. :(
It is so hard to say which way is best because every child is totally different, this is just what my sister is going through right now.

i went to a group discussion on kindergarten readiness. the woman running it said their has been no proof holding a child back is a good thing

In my district you are not allowed to sign your child up for Kindergarten before the cut off date. The cut off date is not usually negotiable.

I am actually a Pre School teacher who was looking for some input for a parent whose child is in my class. The child was born in October and misses the cutoff....she doesn't want to enroll her earlier than she should but since she was in Pre-K this year, her Mom is basically debating whether or not to put her into a Private Pre-K or Private Kindergarten. As her Pre-K teacher, I feel she would do fine in Kindergarten....her cognitive skills are on target, as well as physical and verbal. She lacks a tad in social/emotional but I think this would all catch up. Her Mom is having reservations and I figured I'd post here and get some input. I thank you all

I know a couple moms in my DS's pre-k class are doing private kindergarten for this reason. Then after a year of that they do the public kindergarten.

My sister is going to do private Kindergarten for my early Dec niece, but as a late December child, I think there were so many benefits of being older.

I'm an OT who works primarily in a K - 1 building of a school district. All the students who have sept, oct, nov or dec 1st birthdays end up doing FINE. We had two dec 1st birthdays this year and they were a little behind the other students for the first couple of months, but then they caught up. It's really not that big of a deal. In kindergarten there is a WIDE range of functioning levels the first half of the school year, but unless there is an undetected underlying disability, the children catch up quickly. And if there is a disability, the children are in the right place to get the help they need.
