Kindle Fire HD 8.9 vs Ipad Mini
DH bought me the Kindle Fire HD for Mother's Day. I really wanted it for reading books and for DD to occasionally play games.
A friend of mine is trying to talk me into exchanging it for an ipad mini (and kicking in more $ - about $130). The mini has a Kindle app, so I would still have the benefit of having a Kindle, but I would have so many more things to use.
DH and I both have Iphones (which I love) and a Mac, so getting a third Apple product sounds like it would make sense. I was curious if any of you have the Kindle Fire HD or Mini and could recommend one. I've never had a tablet, so it's all new to me. THanks!

iPad Mini. You can do so much more with it than with a Kindle Fire. I got DH the Kindle Fire for Christmas and he has Android products that he couldn't even sync it with. He ended up exchanging it for a Nexxus b/c then at least he wouldn't be paying for apps twice.
I have an iphone and a regular ipad2. Whatever I DL on my phone shows up on my ipad so I don't have to download twice.
DH won an ipad mini but since I had an ipad already and he uses androids, it didn't make sense for him to keep it so he sold it.

Ipad mini
had the kindle for a few days and returned it
the freetime app was a piece of junk - my 3 year old is good with devices but the interface was just too cumbersome
also the movies on the freetime app are only streaming so not good when on a plane
you pay a premium for apple stuff but I believe it is worth it
I returned the kindle and got a google tablet and I regret not getting the ipad mini

Re: Kindle Fire HD 8.9 vs Ipad Mini
I have a Kindle Fire HD 8.9 and love it. I use it for basic stuff and it works great for me, although I could see that the ipad mini would be a bit easier to use with other apple products.
You can take pics on the kindle but its only a front facing camera. Also I think the graphic quality on the kindle is far superior to the ipad mini.
I think your kids might also benefit from the "Immersion reading" feature where it combines an audio book with a regular book and essentially reads the book to you. I haven't had any issues streaming movies but I have had some issues loading files onto the kindle. Still haven't been able to do it successfully.
Sounds like you're leaning more toward the ipad but I figured I'd at least throw in my $0.02.

Thank you! Would I be able to use the Immersion Reading feature with the Kindle app on the IPad Mini or does it just come with the Fire?
