Kindle Library Lending coming later this year!!!

Kindle Library Article

I don't know about you but I am very excited! That is the one feature I really wished the Kindle had.

I kind of figured this would happen sooner or later.

I'm so glad I got the Kindle over the Nook!

You should be glad that most people are buying the Nook now, otherwise Amazon never would have given in and put this new feature in. Chat Icon

I agree. Nook sales really hurt the Kindle. They had to do it to keep up.

Are "Kindle books" EPUB books, or their own format? Are they just calling all ebooks "Kindle Books" to try and get people to refer to any ebook with their name?

Kindle has its own format but you can probably use some software like calibre to convert docs of other formats so it's readable in Kindle.

This sounds like a publicity stunt, kinda like giving macs to schools. Kindle is doing the masses a favor by lending books, but it's also doing this for the bottom line - increase receptiveness of people to the idea of ebooks, hence increase hardware/book sales. You can be sure there will be restrictions on what you can borrow.

They use their own file format, so it'll just mean that there will be less books available on both formats since libraries will have to buy ebooks in multiple formats.

Added to the new limits to the number of times some publishers are allowing libraries to lend ebooks out (HarperCollins recently announced a 26 time limit for library lending of their books) it's going to be hard for libraries to build robust ebook libraries.
