Kitchen cabinets

We met with HD and the woman was super nice but when she gave us a price of $17,000 JUST for cabinets (kraftmaid very basic shaker) we were like Chat Icon . We live in a cape with a galley kitchen (unable to make larger due to stairs). She did say that was without any discounts so it could be lowered a few thousand but STILL is this what we are looking at??? My DH will do all the work, which will save $$ but it still looks like it would go over $25,000 for a small kitchenChat Icon .

that sounds really pricey. Have them write up exactly what you need with exact dimensions, and then order the cabinets from a retailer online

Re: Kitchen cabinets

Yes, if your husband is handy, I would look around for cabinets that are RTA (Ready to assemble). We went to a place called Kitchen King in queens, looked at the cabinets in person and had them draw up a floor plan with all the sizes we would need, trim, etc. We then went online and purchased them from http://www.mycabinetplace.com - did not have to pay tax. I have a large kitchen with all lower and uppers, a pantry and an island and we paid 7K.

I put a pic in my album. My sister also ordered from them. I got the Yarmouth Cabinets and she got Trenton.

You can order sample doors off the website too for 25 bucks.

As long as they are put together correctly and installed well, you will get the same results as midclass cabinets purchased at home depot...

Re: Kitchen cabinets

My husband is a contractor and he buys his from a cabinet maker in queens...he gets a great deal on more basic styles that is way less than Home Depot or consumers. If your husband is handy, this is the way to go.

Kitchen cabinets

HD is expensive. I priced the exact same cabinets at HD and Consumers (Kraftmaid Shaker ones) and Consumers were half the price.

We installed ourselves. Actually super easy if you are handy.
