Kitchen Reno - Pics and Drawings added

**Please don't quote** I'll remove the pics eventually!

DH and I are working with a contractor friend on our kitchen renovation project. The mock up he gave us for the new layout gives us only 1 drawer (for utensils, that sort of thing). We have more countertop-space, but I can't think of anywhere we can add another drawer or two. Is 1 drawer not enough? The problem is the sink / diswasher / range top leave no room for a regular drawer. We'll have two pot drawers below the range top, and plenty of other cabinets and a pantry, but this drawer thing is irking me. Any thoughts?

ETA this picture:
Here is an actual picture of the kitchen in question. Notice the dish washer floating out in the nether on the perp wall. The counter top will extend onto that wall and cabinets will be added above. The new layout will be similar, but the dish washer will be integrated below the counter top, closer to the sink. Where the free standing dishwasher is now will be more counter / cabinets, and the range top.

On the opposite wall will be the fridge, pantry, and double wall oven.

You can also see the stove floating out in the opposite nether. That area will become our breakfast nook and we hope to do a built in bench or something there.

Ideas??

Re: Kitchen Reno - Drawer Question

Maybe you could take a picture of the drawings and post them so we could better visualize?

Im thinking that one drawer might not be enough
We are in the process of kitchen creating too and I keep asking myself 'where will you put your menus and junk drawer stuff, where will serving platters go' etc

Is it possible to make any drawers a little more shallow so that you could make two drawers instead of one deep one? Or maybe make one set of cabinets shorter and make a drawer on top?

Re: Kitchen Reno - Drawer Question

I have 4 drawers in my kitchen and wish I had just one more.

I really think you should add at least one more drawer. I agree with PP...if you can somehow post the drawings we can help you out.

Re: Kitchen Reno - Drawer Question - PIC added

I like a lot of drawers. We just reno'd our kitchen. I now have 4 drawers in my wall cabinets (1 silverware, 2 cooking utensils, 1 bar utensils), and we changed one of the cabinets in our island design into a bank of 3 drawers (don't have anything in those yet!).

I feel like you can never have enough drawers! I would take another look at your layout and see where you can work in more.

Re: Kitchen Reno - Drawer Question - PIC added

Can you lose one of the base cabinets and put in 3 or 4 drawers instead?

Re: Kitchen Reno - Drawer Question - PIC added

sounds like youre trying to get skinny drawers, not deep ones

previous poster said "can you eliminate one base cabinet"- i agree with that

can you snap a pic of the layout they drew up for you?

just try and see where you can visualize yourself putting pots, pans, baking stuff, ziplock bags etc, forks,

in our kitchen, i have 2 potential spots to put pots and pans- in a lazy susan in a corner, or in a deep drawer. i have 2 potential spots to put forks/knives, i have 2 potential spots to make junk drawers...know what i mean?

good luck!!

Re: Kitchen Reno - Drawer Question - PIC added

I would definitely swap out a door base cabinet with a 4 or 5 drawer cabinet.

I will try to post the drawings we have in a bit. I'm thinking maybe we can use one of the pot drawers in this capacity? For like tupperware containers and our utensils? We'd still have the other pot drawer for pots and the lazy suzy area in the corner. I think our kitchen is just too small!! Chat Icon

Re: Kitchen Reno - Drawer Question - PIC added

I have four small drawers plus two larger drawers with silverware and knives, and I feel like my drawers are at capacity! You will definitely need more than one, and without seeing a layout I agree with others that you should replace one base cabinet with a stack of drawers.

I have 4 large drawers and 2 small. I agree that you will definitely want more than 1. What do you have above you lower cabinets? In our kitchen our lower cabinets are either: cabinet with drawer above or 3 drawers (2 deep). Maybe you can add some drawers above your lower cabinets.

That's the problem - there is only 1 lower cabinet with a drawer above. All the other cabinets are hanging. Below the range top we have two pot drawers. In the corner a lazy suzy. Otherwise it is the dishwasher and below sink cabinets. On the opposite wall, we have a double wall oven with one small drawer below (for cookie sheets, etc), cabinets above the oven, two small cabinets above the fridge, a pantry, and cabinet above the pantry.

ETA: Drawings . . . resizing

I couldn't live with 1 draw. In a kitchen that size I think I would nix the double oven for the extra cabinet/draw space and get a range instead.

What is next to the fridge? Looks like upper cabinets. Whats under? Could you put 3 draws there?

ETA - added the drawings to my album. It's the best I can do. Please have a look!!

Next to the fridge we do have a pantry, which I guess could be cut in half to add drawers. Seems weird to me though.

Do you have room for a small narrow island?

Or can you make that 1st cabinet on the left into drawers?

I kind of want to pull my hair out. I think we don't have enough room for an island. Seems like we either:

1) Scratch double oven (Chat Icon ) and put a cabinet there and replace one lower cabinet with drawers

OR

2) Keep double ovens (Chat Icon ) and replace lower cabinet with drawers.

Advice?

Can you get another kitchen designer to have a look and give you some more ideas? When I had my kitchen done I had 7 quotes and 7 different designs, I took the bits I liked from every design and put them together in my kitchen. One guy wanted me to move the door, another one wanted me to not have the oven wall that i wanted. it was helpful to meet with so many people. Good luck.

Tough call. Honestly I have a double oven and really don't use it. I use it because I feel like I should. I may love it for holidays but not sure if I was short on space I would opt for it. Unless you have another pantry you will need that space.

Doing a kitchen layout stinks!

Scratch the double oven. You need more storage than a second oven IMO.
