Kitchen 'themes'....

I'm trying to think of decor for our kitchen, (for when we redo it)....and in looking thru some of the threads, i've noticed some of you have 'themes'...for ex. like a vineyard/wine theme...

i found this pic and wanted opinions...

i think i'm drawn more to the color palette, then the pic itself...Chat Icon

eta: ok..the more i look at it, the more i'm startin' to love the pic!! Chat Icon

Re: Kitchen 'themes'....

well in your backsplash do you have any decorative tiles? I think it is easy to work off of that. So if you have grapes or apples get some trivets and an oven mitt that go with it. If you like a cafe feel, you could get decorative oversized coffee mugs to go on top of cabinets if your cabinets have shelf space above them.

well my kitchen still looks like it's stuck in the 70's...so right now, my backsplash is those ugly red faux bricks!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon
(which is why we're starting to plan renov/remodel, etc)

i remember seeing a show where the designer/decorator said it's easier to choose colors/tiles, when you find an accessory/accent piece that you like, versus the other way around..(pick a color first, then try to find accessories that match)

Re: Kitchen 'themes'....

I think that is a great idea. One thing you might try to do if you like it, is if you have an accent color in another room near the kitchen you can pick that color up and bring it into the kitchen. For example, if you have burgundy pillows on your sofa, you could bring burgundy accents into your kitchen by going with a wine theme. Do you see any rooms from the kitchen? Also, what colors are the rest of your home (at least near the kitchen)?

the only rooms that we've painted so far are the bedrooms. we're in the process of putting the rest of the rooms "together" so to speak. Chat Icon

you can see the DR from the kitchen..(but there's a wall that separates the two, which MIGHT get torn down either completely, or at least 1/2 way)..so it'll be like a half wall that separates the two.

I like the pic you posted-love the colors.
Our kitchen has a coffee/cafe "theme". DH & I are big coffee lovers & I found two prints that looked good with our kitchen when we first redid it. Then my Mom decided to buy me every coffee related thing she could findChat Icon so now I have towels, mats & a few other prints. I think it looks nice without being an overbearing theme.
I picked our kitchen paint color by looking at our stoneware & pulling a color that looked good against the cabinet finish from the plate. Then I picked the floor & countertop.

I definitely like it as a color palette and the pic itself. My personal taste is to keep the kitchen bright so if it were me, I'd of course choose the big elements of the kitchen theme (paint, etc) in the lighter color ranges found in that pic and accent with the darker colors, and even some black & white. But I think the pic is a great starting point.

Those are very cute! They could totally be your inspiration for a whole room. An Italian trattoria thing might be fun to do.

Re: Kitchen 'themes'....

I love the idea. I have an "italian kitchen" theme. I painted (using stencils, of course) grapes and vines like a border on the walls, close to the ceiling. Then ivy vines around the doorway. Plus I got some pictures that look like Italian villas and different pictures of grapes with their names under them. I love theme kitchens.Chat Icon
