Kitchenaid standmixer peeps!!! help me out UPDATED!! I bit the bullet!
UPDATE:
guess what's coming to mama!
in red!!! so excited.
I sort of went medium hog I guess. only the 5 quart bowl but with the big motor.
and with the rebate, it's still under my max price of $300.
so excited.
thanks for your help.
----------------------------------------------------------------- Macy's is having a sale. they have the "classic" kitchenaid 4.5 quart white for $199.99 with an additional $20 rebate.
they have the Artisan 5 qt for $299.00. with an additional $30 rebate.
I have been JONESING for one and I think I may make the plunge.
but which one....the classic is the one I used to cake decorate and the first one I feel in love with.
the artisan is slightly larger and comes in many pretty colors...but it is worth paying an extra $100 for???
also, the Architect 5 qt is the same price as the artisan.
the Architect 6 qt is $399 with an additonal rebate.
I want to make the best most cost effective choice....
what do I do?
I would use it for icings, batters, maybe bread. don't need pasta attachment.

Re: Kitchenaid standmixer peeps!!! help me out
I have the 4 qt. kitchenaid one and I love it. It's never been TOO small for my needs and I've done plenty of baking for work and parties and such.
As for attachments, I don't have any yet so I'm no help there!

Re: Kitchenaid standmixer peeps!!! help me out
I'm pretty sure I have just the classic and it's been fine for all purposes.
I actually LOVE the pasta attachments! We have the roller and a bunch of cutters. They are great and make it super fun to make pasta :)
You definitely need the scraping paddle... it's awesome!
We also have the juicer which is so much easier than having an actual juicer (and it's a space-saver!)

Re: Kitchenaid standmixer peeps!!! help me out
I have the smaller one and it has been great for me. Unless you make a lot of things where you would need teh larger one, I don't think the extra $100 is worth it.

The smaller one is pretty damn big. Holds alot and will serve you well. You will love it. I steal my moms all the time.

Re: Kitchenaid standmixer peeps!!! help me out
I have the artisan 5 qt and wish I had gone for the 6 qt. The 5 qt holds my usual batch of cookie dough, but it's a tight fit. Especially after adding stuff like nuts, it looks like it's harder for the machine to incorporate it into the dough.

Re: Kitchenaid standmixer peeps!!! help me out
My mom got me the Professional 600 series 6qt for my shower. I have nothing to compare it to but I LOVE it!!! I use it for everything I bake! I want to start buying some other attachments also. The bigger mixing bowl helped a lot when I doubled up Christmas cookie recipes.

Re: Kitchenaid standmixer peeps!!! help me out
costco
i have the one from costco-see above link
The size is perfect for doubled recipes, strong motor to cut through the thicker doughs, it can cut out so many other kitchen tools just by getting the attachements (which can be purchased in bundle pack to save money) you can replace half your kitchen appliances with all the attachment options....i say bigger the better when it comes to this fabulous mixer!!! You will regret getting the smaller size...this is from experience! This was number 2 for me

This was number 2 for me
see this is what I am afraid of....to skimp out now and then end up spending more than double the amount on an upgrade.
dh just sent me an email asking if I was going to pull the trigger.

Re: Kitchenaid standmixer peeps!!! help me out
The Artisan 5 quart has a more powerful motor 325 watts vs 250 watts for the Classic, helpful if you will be making heavier batters and breads.
