kitten- 6 months
My husband and I are watching my cousin's 7 year old twin boys and their 8 month old son overnight tonight. They got here about 3 hours ago, and our kitten has been hissing at them a lot, and even swiped at the baby once, trying to scratch him... I'm worried about having kids of our own now, and my husband thinks we are going to have to get rid of her when we have a baby of our own... has anyone else had a problem like this? Is it something we can fix?

Not really sure what was going on. Were you allowing the children to overwhelm the baby cat? The kitten is just that, a kitten, who could be frightened by something or someone new (just as any other baby might be). But honestly, if you are thinking that way already, maybe find the kitten a new home asap so that it has a fighting chance to be adopted while young, because we all know that older adult cats will have much harder time finding a home than a kitten.

Its only been three hours! I wouldn't stress out yet. Cats are not known for their quick adaptability - this is a big change in her daily world so I am sure she is just confused/scared.

The poor thing is going from no kids to 3 kids in the house! That's a huge change! Don't force it to be around them and it will come around on it's own. Also the older cats get generally they calm down and become much more laid back so kids of your own shouldn't be an issue.

Alright thank you for the help everyone! I realized that the cat was mad whenever the baby would cry- she didn't like the noise... It is so unlike her, because she is such a friendly kitten and loves everyone that comes over usually. She just hasn't been around kids too much. It seems like this is pretty normal though
