Kitten w/ bad breath and awful gas
I have a 5 month old kitten and he has disgusting smelling breath and gas so bad it can clear a room. I am planning on taking him to the vet, but I am just curious if anyone has had a similar problem, and if it can be treated w/o going to the vet. Oh-- he is also teething, if that means anything, I don't know. Thanks!

It could be what you're feeding him. My cats had room clearing farts when they ate Natural Balance, and it cleared up when the vet switched them to Science Diet K/D (for health reasons).

The gas/bad breath is usually a by product of what you feed them.

Not sure about the what you feed them comment...
I have two cats and they eat the same stuff. One has horribly bad breath. I can smell it when she's grooming herself 3 feet from me. That same cat doesn't like to lick her dingleberry butt either. Eeeks!
My other cat has normal breath and she's a much cleaner cat in general.
Same applies to humans too I think. Hubby and I eat the same thing and he's a toxic after a mexican or Indian dinner!

Re: Kitten w/ bad breath and awful gas
I agree with the above that it could be what you are feeding them. I grew up with 2 cats, they only had hard food that we bought from the vet. Their teeth were really white and their breath didn't smell at all. They also never had gas.
The kitten I just got has bad breath and gas.
The gas was because he had worms. Once we dewormed him, the gas decreased significantly.

Is she fixed yet? I know the vet told us once that kitties had much worse gas before they were fixed.

Re: Kitten w/ bad breath and awful gas
I have heard that gas is worse if they are not fixed yet.
I also think it may be the food- it might not be a good choice for your cat- ask your Vet about that.
As far as the breath- Vets usually suggest brushing their teeth once or twice a week. We do it with our dog and it makes a huge difference. They even have spray for pets.

FOOD!!!!!!!!! When Daisy was new to us she was so small that the hard food was to hard for her so we gave her soft food. She LOVED it, but................her farts were HORRIBLE! I mean...make a grown man's eyes water bad. Once she ate her hard food her breath got better and her gas went away. She still has man farts but it's not so bad.
