kitty vomiting - UPDATED, she's at the Vet tonight
My 8 year old siamese mix apparently had a bad night with small bouts of vomit we found all over the house today. She's been sleeping on top of our new Verizon Fios box (it's warm and vibrates, maybe she thinks it's her kitty mom). We are going to find something to cover the box, but could she get sick from laying on top of this thing? Not sure it's related, but it's one of the things she threw up on and we haven't felt comfortable with her sleeping on it, but everytime we remove her she eventually jumps back on. Nothing else is different. The food bowls need to be cleaned, maybe she's getting some fur in her mouth when she eats?
UPDATE- I called the Vet b/c she's wasn't eating and she was still dry heaving. They x-rayed her... nothing lodged in there, but no food in their either. Her organs look okay from the x-ray, but they are keeping her for blood work and to administer IV fluids and stomach meds like Pepcid injections. They are keeping her overnight and I'm a mess today. I was hysterical on the phone with my parent's who are trying to make me stay calm for the baby (I'm 16 weeks pregnant). I want to, but I'm very scared for my kitty girl. I promised her 7 years ago when I rescued her that I would never leave her and today I had to leave her at the Vet and it's killing me. She wanted to go back into the carrier and come home but I had to tell her she had to stay, that I love her and that she better get better b/c I'm not ready to lose her... I'll never be ready for that, but I've spent the day so far inconsolable. I find out around 4:30 about the blood work... but still, my little girl won't be sleeping with DH and I. I just pray she's going to be okay.
UPDATE2: So the bloods that came back all came back fine. The only one that didn't come back was the Thyroid, that will be back tomorrow. So she hasn't been vomitting or dry heaving since being on the fluid therapy. They want me to come by with some of her food (remember she's my picky girl) tomorrow and they want to see if she'll eat and keep the food down. If she doesn't she has to have an ultrasound on Thursday. I'm thinking she may not eat while she's there, and if that's the case I will leave her there and have them do the Ultrasound on Thursday. It just makes more sense... otherwise we'd have to see if she holds food down at home and if not, it will be difficult for me to get her to the Vet on Thursday b/c of something going on with work and I'd rather not get work involved in this right now. Granted, I can always blame the pregnancy rather than saying it's about my cat since very few people understand. I'd just rather not have to put her through the car rides and such, although leaving her overnight is horrible! This is going to be a tough night and I know being PG I need to sleep. I'm forcing myself to eat. The good news is that she's doing okay so far and there's nothing catastrophic at this point. Maybe its some sort of kitty flu/stomach virus? Maybe she just got an upset stomach and had some spasms from it? Need lots of for my girlie!

Re: kitty vomiting
Was it food or a hair ball?
If it was food, maybe she ate too fast?
If it was a hairball, there are all kinds of things for that - medicine, diet ...

Re: kitty vomiting
Definitely not a hair ball. We have 5 cats, this is my oldest... she is the one who rarely throws up. She threw up several times last night (no unchewed food or hair) until she basically dry heaved and coughed up saliva in foam consistancy. I called the Vet around 6:30AM this morning, they put me on the call list and gave me the emergency number just in case. I've been sitting up with her ever since. I want to get her to the Vet right away. She looked at the food dishes and walked away. She did drink a little water, haven't seen her use the litter box yet this morning - granted all my checking on her is probably not helping... once she looks at me she runs over to me and stops what she was doing. She was licking me after the vomit episodes and teething my arm. Made me sad. I'm VERY concerned and was crying for a bit. She's alert though and even playful which is the only reason I didn't call the emergency number, so I'm hoping she just has a bug. DH thinks she somehow ingested something loged in her intestine. She never eats anything... I mean you can't give this cat anything but one type of cat food, that is IT. She's very finicky. Doesn't eat treats or anything. I can see my youngest cat doing something like that, but I'd be surprised if that was the problem here. I'm giving her lots of attention and love hoping she'll b okay. She's my first baby as far as I'm concerned and I'll do anything to make sure she is okay. I can just see this Vet bill, but I need her alive and well. So whatever the price, I'll have to deal with it.

Re: kitty vomiting - UPDATED, she's at the Vet
I also had to leave my puppy baby overnight earlier this month as a result of vomitting. I cried all night that I could not be with her. However, leaving her overnight was the best thing I could have done. She was in great spirits when I picked her up the following day! Your kitty is getting the best care at the vet and is verey lucky to have a mom to care as much as you do. Hang in there Let us know how it goes

Re: kitty vomiting - UPDATED, she's at the Vet tonight
I'm now getting a bit frustrated b/c the tech is supposed to do a sonogram on her today... it hasn't happened yet . I know the staff there is tired of my calling, but if she doesn't have to stay another night, I'd prefer to take her home... I just don't want a call at 7:50PM of them telling me she's fine and can go home, but we close in 10 minutes so if you can't get here you can pick her up tomorrow, hence pay for another night of boarding! PS. the sonogram is to determine if she has a tumor... there was some thickening in her intestine... could be nothing or the start of a tumor. I'd be so happy to hear that it's not a tumor...

Re: kitty vomiting - UPDATED, she's at the Vet tonight
Hugs for kitty and hugs for you!
The same thing happened to my cat about a year ago and we never actually figured out why she was trowing up.
She was throwing up all over the house. When she ran out of food in her tummy she was dry heaving and vomiting water all over the place.
She spent a night at the vets. They did x-rays and blood work. Never figured it out. The great mystery. 2 days later she was fine.
I am sure your kitty will be OK too!
