Klein vs. Kofinas?
I'm trying to decide with which doctor to make an appointment and was hoping for some feedback.
The pros of Klein for me: one doctor who does it all, takes insurance
Cons: impossible to even get someone to answer the phone at that practice
Pros of Kofinas for me: phenomenal reputation
Cons: I have difficulty believing that nearly every single person who sees him need to be on Lovenox. Medicating a huge % of patients with it makes me a bit leery; doesn't take insurance
I'd really like to hear your thoughts about the 2 doctors so that I feel as though I'm making more of an informed decision.

Re: Klein vs. Kofinas?
I don't know of Klein, but I think a big reason why so many Kofinas patients are on meds is because they had underlying issues adn wer sent to him for that reason. I went to my OB to follow up for spotting I had been seen at the ER for. OB saw I had been on lovenox (prescribed by 2 different IF Drs) and called Kofinas to have me go there. Then he want on to do a sono and sae the reason for my bleeding was placenta previa and a subcor bleed which is treated by lovenox. That coupled with the fact that I'm carrying IVF twins, which Kofinas specializes in, brought me to his office.
I also know people who go to my OB and were taken off lovenox they ahd been put on by ther IF Dr., so not every one of their patients needs to see a peri.

Re: Klein vs. Kofinas?
Thanks. Your explanation makes sense. RE found a SCH recently, so I'm quite concerned and had a bout of bleeding already.

Re: Klein vs. Kofinas?
I can not speak about Klein as i have never seen him. I am a Kofinas Patient. I was sent to him by my RE with my twin pregnancy. I had not known that i had thrombophilia and needed lovenox until Kofinas did a blood work up in me. At first i was a little leary about going on the lovenox because he said most of his patients did wind up on it, but then around 16 weeks (I was already on lovenox at this point) the Thrombo started to affect the placentas and i needed to be on it twice a day. So i knew had i not been on lovenox, it would have affected the placentas a lot sooner. At 24 1/2 weeks, Dr. Kofinas and his Colleague Dr. Nugyen literally save my twins' lives. I had to have an emergency cerglage that most OB's wont do after 20 weeks. Had Dr Kofinas not done the cerclage, i would have delivered my twins that week. I had almost no cervix left the morning i went for the procedure. When i found out i was PG again, I immediately called Kofinas' office and they sent me right away, the same day, for blood work and scheduled an appointment for me to come in. Everytime i call there, the ladies behind the front desk are always super nice and very helpful and the 2 nurses there are great as well. Always willing to answer questions no matter how many times you call.
The only thing with Dr kofinas is his first impression might not be that great! The first time i ever saw him i left more freaked out than i was. He is very straight forward and to the point. But he knows his stuff!!! After the 2nd or 3rd appointment, i felt much better!
That's my experience with Dr Kofinas.

Re: Klein vs. Kofinas?
I have been Klein's patient from the beginning, he is my primary OB , he is def very good at what he does and as you know everyone just raves about him, everyone loves him. To me he is ok, obviously he is very good at what he does and he knows his s***, basically if you have any complications and huge problems he is the one you want to be with, but I feel like that has gone to his head a bit , I feel like lots of times he is really rushing, he wastes too much time talking to nurses and front desk while I'm waiting in the exam room (sometimes more than 30 min, this is not including the waiting room wait) then he rushes in, does whatever and rushes out. He DOES take you to his office after the exam IF you tell him you have questions and concerns and he will talk to you, explain things to you,I also feel like you are just another number to him/them. When I first went to him and he heard my history he said to me "I am going to do your CS , not letting anyone else do it" , then last week I asked him about the CS and he said he is going to "try" and do it, but didn't sound so sure... His office is very difficult to deal with and takes forever to get test results from them. It's also very hard to schedule appts, so I just go ahead and schedule few appts in advance so I dob't have to deal with it. There have been few times when I considered and seriously looked into switching, but then my primary dr and my cardiologist (and few of his former patients I know) talked me out of it. So I'm still there.
Also remember that Klein is known to be VERY pro CS , most of his patients end up getting a CS .

Thanks for sharing your experience. I didn't know that he was a proponent of C-sections. It's interesting to know about your experiences with obtaining test results.

I honestly never had a problem getting test results or getting someone on the phone there. I also went to him because he was open to giving me a natural birth with twins while others schedule a section automatically.... so 2 different experiences.
However, if you come from Dr. B, or if you have thrombo/blood issues that are known, go to Kofinas.

Re: Klein vs. Kofinas?
I saw Kofinas while I was pregnant with DS. I loved him and his entire office. They run like clockwork and really don't miss a thing. I was seen every 2 weeks during my pregnancy, unless an issue arose, then I was seen weekly. He definitely tells it like it is with no sugar coating, but that's just his personality. He truly is an amazing doc!
I was on lovenox for the duration of my pregnancy. I have several clotting disorders and it really heled prevent any placental issues, thankfully!
Good luck!

The person who originally recommended him told me "he is great but just so you know his office staff is not so great to deal with and getting test results from them is a pain in the neck" but I wen to him anyway. I even saw a post on here by someone who was complaining how she was having a hard time getting results from the office and few other girls agreed, I thought they were exaggerating a bit, but then I had the experience myself so... Also there was an issue with my results , they said my fregile x factor was high, stressed me out so much, went 2 days of hell , back and forth with the dr and the nurses, finally I realized they never looked at my records to compare, so I told them to check my records bc I had already had 2 pregnancies and it never came up they re-checked with a lab and turned out they had wrong results (but this was the lab's fault not the office or the dr) Then today they called me to tell me my glucose test results were normal, naturally I got excited , told them I'm so happy bc I failed the 1hr w my DD but passed 3hr...so the nurse said to me "hmm, let me make sure they didn't make a mistake, let me call you back" So she called me back 5 min later and said "yup, all normal" But. i gotta tell you, I seem to have THE worst luck when it comes to stuff like this, lol. So don't go on just my experience, as far as I know 99% of the patients of this practice/DR are VERY happy.

I thought this too at first. He doesn't show his true personality until later. I like that he doesnt take crap. I wasn't taking my iron and he got mad at me for going off it in the beginning because I wasn't sure if I should be taking it. Now he comes in and is joking and is very down to earth. He knows his stuff and they watch their patients like hawks to catch any issues early on.

Re: Klein vs. Kofinas?
I cannot speak for klein, but I am a patient of Kofinas, and love him. I feel so safe and secure in his hands. I was on lovenox prior to seeing him and through his scans and tests it showed I needed to be on it 2x a day since my planceta had shown signs on "damage" I trust him completely
