Did anyone see the letter he sent to principals? It is horrible! They will not know until the first week in June! My principal already told most of the 2007, 2008 teachers to start preparing!
I feel so horrible!

Re: Klien says all 2007 and newer DOE elementary ed employees are in danger of being laid off!
I saw Mike Mulgrew on NY1 (it is still on the site) and his is focused on improving the budget so that there will be none or fewer layoffs. He has proposed a retirement incentive to the city but has no response yet.
I know it's hard- but I wouldn't get too upset yet. I really think a lot of this is Bloomberg being a politician and a jerk- they are going to shell out $5 million for recruitment efforts while laying people off? They want that bill to pass in Albany so they can get rid of senior teachers and bring in more cheaper ones. This is also his way of taking potshots at Patterson.

I agree with you, and I certainly hope it is this...
A retirment incentive would be great!

I say Mulgrew on NY1 also and he is determined to work with the budget to stop the mass layoffs. He wouldn't even discuss the removal of LIFO because he feels it is a distraction tactic Klein and Bloomberg are using.
I think it is sick that they can use 5 Million Dollars for recruitment and talk about laying off 6000+ teachers at the same time. The city is seriously f'ed up
