Kmart Hempstead Tpke in Levittown
I heard something yesterday about Kmart on Hempstead Tpke in Levittown. There was some news going around that Lowes was interested in buying the Property, well Home Depot, bought the property from underneath Lowes.
I dont know if Home depot is actually going to do anything with the property, because if they do they will have to take the building down and start fresh. The ceilings are way too low in the old kmart building.
Home Depot just didnt want the extra competition that they would of had between their East Meadow store and if Lowes opened a store there.
I am so upset, I was looking forward to that lowes opening...I live so close to there.

I heard the same thing. I also heard that in order to complete the sale or construction or whatever, that they need to buy out the Office Depot that is in the same strip. Don't know if any of this is true of course, it's all just speculation.
I grew up down Jerusalem from there. My first "real" job was in that building - back when it used to be a dim, dirty store called TSS. Times Square Stores.
Damn, I'm getting old.

I remember TSS - I used to go there with my mother when I was little.
I hope they make something of that building, it is such a waste of space.
I also heard that now the cops are going to try to stop car night no tuesday night in that parking lot because the new owners dont want car night going on there....Its not right that they would do that, especially since the store isnt open

there s a Lowe's in Westbury. My Dad loves that store. he goes out of his way to Lowes if he needs something. I have to say... I don't blame him. it's much nicer IMO.

There is an organized car night now? It used to be that guys would just congregate in a parking lot somewhere on Fri/Sat nights and go "cruising the pike".
What is it, guys with muscle cars and stuff? If they put a popular store in there, they may not have room anyway.

My DH is a part of that car night. He is a part of a "mustang club" (hehehe). They all get together and shoot the breeze. They aren't bothering anybody, he will be disappointed to here this...........

I know someone who was interested in that property when Kmart first closed and they were told that HD had already acquired it and was debating if they were going to put a regular HD or one of the Expos there. I figured they'd just given up on the location.

That "rumor" has been going around since KMart left. Nothing ever came of it though. Not sure if it is back on the "building" block though

Yes Lowes is coming to Hicksville - cannot wait....They also opened a store in farmingdale but I think Westbury is still the closest store right now to me

Delco shopping center doesn't seem big enough, you know? Unless they have all the other stores in the whole strip and take out that bank. 
The corner where Pergament was would have been perfect for a Lowe's or HD. But there's a Pathmark there, right?

O tay heres the deal. Lowes bought the Waldbaums property in Bethpage by Applebees. They made all the business there leave and they will be building shortly.
HOME DEPOT bought that property (kmart) and the people of Levittown are making a big deal about a home depot going there because "traffic"

No, not Delco....the one that runs along Bloomingdale rd. I go to the Pizzaria in there and the guy also told me that Lowe's was being placed there.

Agreed! I live in Levittown. Grew up here and bought a house here. I have to say people in Levittown are silly! Like there wasn't traffic when kmart was opened. I know the traffic s*cks. Ive seen the Pike at christmas time.. Where you can't move but give me a break! HELLO PEOPLE.... Another business will give us a tax BREAK

Not only that, the traffic was just as bad when it was KMart, what's the big deal? At least it's on a corner where there are two streets to enter, exit by.

i think the generic complaint for every new business is "traffic." its on freaking hempstead tpke, that road is never quiet.

Also heard that Lowes is moving in on 107 where Waldbaum's used to be - Wholesale Liquidators and Jazzercise as well as the other stores have to get out.
So.....not surpised HD would buy the KMart out from under them, too many Lowes can spoil their market!
