Re: knights of columbus or vfw halls ....
Have you thought about a restaurant or hall? In all honesty, by the time you order the food, the decorations, hall, etc. it evens out. I had DS's 1st b-day at a nice VFW hall in sayville and by the end it would have cost the same to have it at a restaurant plus it's more work for you! Some of the halls cost $800+ just to rent.
My IL's got married at The George Washington Manor in Roslyn Harbor (I think) and they got a great price, the food was good and the room was beautiful! I would check it out!

My friend got married at the Knights of Columbus in New Hyde Park last year. It was beautiful, the food was good and it was super reasonable!

I've been to a few events (including my bridal shower) at the K of C in North Flushing. It's on 160th and Northern. Very nice!

I think this is one of the only KOC halls that have their own on-site catering. We went to an engagement party there and it was a really nice set up.

i haven't been inside, but on Bell Blvd (next door to Hazel's shoes), there is a VFW hall that has a sign in the window for private parties.

My bridal shower was there in the smaller room downstairs and it was really nice.

yes, we've rented out this room for Dh's 30th bday party. It was actually really nice. I'm not sure on the limit though, I think I recall it being 75.
