Knit or crochet?

Did you knit or crochet? I hear crochet is easier to do....I did teach myself to knit though and wondering if I should switch to crochet?

Re: Knit or crochet?

I wouldn't say one is harder than the other, but I can crotchet MUCH faster than I knit. A knitted scarf would take me a month, a crotcheted one would take a week. I need immediate gratification. Chat Icon

Re: Knit or crochet?

I prefer knitting because I think it's a lot more versatile in the results you can get from it, but it does take a little more practice and dexterity to pick up.

Re: Knit or crochet?

I do both. I think they can both be easy or challenging depending on the project and stitches used.

Re: Knit or crochet?

Plus, it depends on what you are making. for baby things, I love the way knitting looks. But for blankets and scarves, I like crochet...there are so many differnet patterns that you can do.

Re: Knit or crochet?

Ok...who wants to teach me to crochet?

I tried teaching myself over this weekend, but I could not get the hang of it...other than making a really long chain stitch Chat Icon I don't know if they stictches were too tight, but I coulnd't get the jist of the single crochet.

I am making a blanket and I know it's going to take me forever to knit.

Kim, I can teach you. It's not as difficult as you would think. The first day, I couldn't even hold the needle and in a week, I finished a wrap. My mom (who taught me) couldn't believe it! Plus, I got some great baby patterns that I can share with you if you wish.

KNIT Chat Icon

I have learned some crochet for finishing techniques. But I definately enjoy knitting more. I never thought that knitting was hard. Had a little trouble at first learning to cast on, but never a problem with the knitting.

Re: Knit or crochet?

i can do both, but i like to knit more. crocheting is good for blankets b/c it goes faster (can you imagine knitting a blanket Chat Icon). i like things done quick so i do small knitting projects like socks (they are easier than they look!) or hats or scarves. also knitting uses less yarn and a good yarn can be expensive.
