labor bag vs. suitcase for hospital
At my hospital they tell us not to bring our suitcase when we go to L&D, but to bring a small bag carrying only what you need for labor and delivery... then later someone can bring you the suitcase with what you will need for your hospital stay.
This may be a dumb question but... what will I need for labor and delivery? I know for the suitcase I'll need nightgowns, soap/shampoo, toothbrush/toothpaste, deodorant, slippers, clothes to go home in, baby's coming home outfit, etc. But other than a camera, my cell phone, and something to pass the time, what do I really need to bring with me for labor?
Thanks in advance.

Re: labor bag vs. suitcase for hospital
I didn't bring anything with me, I wanted to sleep as soon as I got the epi
Some people bring pillows, their iPod, cell phone, magazines, focal point object (for drug-free births), tennis ball to help with back labor, chap stick, sucking candies... I had my cell phone and that was it, I got ice chips from the nurses and I was all set

That's probably what I'll be doing. I can't be packing 2 bags- I can barely get my head together to pack one.

Re: labor bag vs. suitcase for hospital
I am just starting to pack mine this week, and I feel lost. I keep feeling like I'm going to forget something I really want. I just want to get through labor. We can bring a seperate bag for after delivery and have DH bring it in right??

Yeah I have a duffle on wheels that I packed....I was going to pack two bags, but it all fit and I just didn't see the point in packing two since the bag really isn't all that big to begin with!

Yeah I just have a small bag with toiletries, a small bag with all the pads and stuff and then two pajamas and an outfit to go home in. I am going to throw my chargers in there later on. Not a big deal, I keep telling DH as long as we have our insurance card - I am not worried LOL and even if we forget our camera, we both have camera phones!

Re: labor bag vs. suitcase for hospital
We have a mini backpack that DH is bringing when it's time to go the hospital. It has snacks for him, our camera w. extra batteries, his DS , and his charger for his phone. It also has our ins cards.
My hospital bag is done and sitting in the backseat. DH will bring that in once the baby is here and I am in my room.

Re: labor bag vs. suitcase for hospital
I had a small duffle bag I brought to L&D with some snacks, camera, chapstick, my bath robe, slippers, cell phone and charger and my ipod..just simple stuff. I also had my pillow from home. My suitcase had all the clothing for me and baby. To be honest, I didn't use 1/2 the stuff in my suitcase. I had a c-section and I was in a hospital gown for the first 2 days, then was able to shower and wear loose fitting pjs. I didn't wear an "outfit" til the day I was leaving the hospital.
One lifesaver...get those WISP tootbrush things. In L&D you get so dried out and your breath gets funky
