Re: lacking motivation...
I know running isn't for everyone...but I find my motivation by signing up for races. Look into the couch to 5K plan (there's a thread on here) that can get you to a 5K/3.1m race (there's also a 4K/2.5m race in November at the Northport VA Hospital) even if you do all walking (which many people do) having an exercise schedule is so hopeful!
good luck!

Re: lacking motivation...
Do you have a friend that wants to do this with you?
I've always found that the easiest way to get motivated is to have a gym/dieting buddy.
Someone that you can call every day and push each other, compare notes, vent, etc.
I always feel guilty if I feel like I am letting someone else down.
If not, is there a class at the gym that you love? I have a class at my gym on Mondays and Fridays and I really, really love the instructor and class, so it makes me not want to miss it.
Another thing that helped me, believe it or not, was buying a few cute articles of clothing in my bigger size. I was feeling so dumpy and refused to buy "fat clothes" but what I didn't realize was that wearing sweats and maternity clothes just made me feel worse about myself. I went and bought a few things that flattered my bigger body and started feeling good about myself again which made me really want to lose weight. Building your self-esteem and confidence will also help to motivate you.
Good luck!!! You can totally do it. You just have to make the commitment and make it a priority.
