Ladies - PLEASE do good, reliable research....

STOP listening to Oprah, Jenny, etc - get some medical journals if you need to - go on a search engine, and please, please, PLEASE empower yourselves....

Here are some links to abstracts:

http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/abstract/112/3/604

CDC link

http://www.cdc.gov/od/science/iso/concerns/mmr_autism.htm

Notice this - when you look for links between autism and vaccinations, you will NEVER find medical research or links - only websites. Medical research will show that it has been disporven in good sources, and also show research into genetics....

more links... RESEARCH on genetics

i agree with the power of good research - but for me personally...until they can tell me what DOES cause autism I will be weary of all things suspected.

I agree.... I'm not saying that kids on the spectrum may not be more sensitive to certain things in their environment... but many parents tell me they always suspected something different about their child. And I have seen baby videos.. its sad, but you can see things already.

When I lived in Vermont, they were anti-vaccine because they were au naturel... and there were still many kids diagnosed with autism.

I would like to split the MMR for Cailen because I got very sick from it when I was little - obviously, not a developmental disorder, but sick sick - like a bad cold. I'd rather do it split up and maybe Cailen wont get pummeled....

I just want to add until they can 1000% prove that vaccines DO NOT cause autism, I will continue getting thimerisol free, single dose vials even if insurance does not pay for it and all the docs think I am nuts.

ITA!!!

I get a little Chat Icon when celebrities speak on any topic. There are a lot of people that either don't hear the full story or know all the facts, but because "X" celebrity spoke about it they must know everything and be worthy of following their thoughts.

She said SHE believed the vaccine what was what caused Autism - she is not privy to any secret information. It would be like you or I saying what we believe. I hope everyone does do their homework on this before delaying or not delaying.

Thank you for posting these links, now I have to go do my homework! Chat Icon

Re: Ladies - PLEASE do good, reliable research....

I just think its harsh to say dont listen to Jenny and Oprah, They HAVE done a lot of research as well and are not going to just blindly say things.

I agree though, everyone needs to do their own and come up with their own conclusions, BUT If someones is different then ours, it doesnt make them wrong.

Unfortunatly for every its not related bit of research, there is a contridicting piece thats also well established.

Parents have to make their own minds up about the risks and weigh them.

I know my ped says the vaccines they use do not contain thimerosal... actually, many docs stopped using thimerosal in vaccines.... maybe its time to look for a new ped if he isn't supporting your decision?

sometimes people do research and their sources are biased. I will never trust someone who said they did the research (I'm not saying to listen to ME, because I did research...)

I am saying, do not listen to Jenny McCarthy and Oprah and Holly. Yes, I'm harsh. I'm saying do not listen to me either. I'm getting harsher with that one Chat Icon

I am saying, before any of you ladies make serious decisions for your child, click off the Oprah show and do your own research. Don't let the scholar Jenny do the research for you. If she can read a medical journal, so can you. I would like to see her sources that don't say "alternative medicine" anywhere in the title. There are many alternative med journals out there and they will try hard to prove that the link is there.

A truly reliable study never tries to prove their hyptohesis. They try and disporve their hypthesis. This prevents bias. A good study does everythign to avoid bias. However, most organizations and people doing "research" on vaccinations and autism are trying very hard to prove it. That bothers me.

Like all the studies on dairy are funded by the dairy coucil. Studies about meat are funded by the meat council.

Sorry Jenny - I think your hot, but I do not think you are any expert on autism. I would LOVE to hear how you lost your baby weight. I'll listen to you about that, because that is evdience I can clearly see. Chat Icon

ETA - the internet is a horrible place to do research - if you notice, I gave links to journals that exist somewhere besides cyberspace.

Re: Ladies - PLEASE do good, reliable research....

I don't understand the harm in listening to the other side of the story. I guess you are coming from some sort of medical side, and it was nice of you to post those links.

But, you do not have a child with autism. If these women do and they want to help those who are living with autism...where's the harm in that?

To say people are just looking for something to blame is very narrow minded. They live it day in and day out, night after night, weekend after weekend. I thank them for sharing their information and taking the time to tell us their side of the story. It helps us make a more educated decision. Jenny may not have any medical training or experience, but I am sure she has logged more then enough hours dealing with this to be able to speak on a forum.

Months ago, they did a show, no celebs just moms and the same thing was said. What do these mothers have to gain by saying it was the MMR? What do they have to lose? They are just saying what they believe could have caused their case.

And its true, it is probably genetic related. Well are they observing every baby to see if the gene is there before they give the MMR? or are they just giving it to every 1 year old.

Re: Ladies - PLEASE do good, reliable research....

The main problem is that with all of these unfounded scares going around, parents aren't giving their DC potentially life-saving vaccines. it's great that Jenny is telling people that they aren't alone, and that they can work through it, but I'm not happy about blaming a tool that is known to save lives.....

i understand that...but why not incorporate some kind of pre-MMR physical. If some are saying that their were signs before the shots..then why not stage a physical for dr to look for these signs before shot is administered? I think the shot is very important...so important that it should also be taken very seriously before given.
