Ladies who use Mirena
Can you tell me your experience?
Do you like it?
Any side effects at all?
How are your periods?
Did it hurt when it was inserted?
TIA!

Re: Ladies who use Mirena
I had it taken out because I have short cycles (23-25 days) and Mirena didn't help, PLUS I had mid-cycle bleeding every time.
However, no issues with the Mirena itself. The speculum hurt because they use a larger one but I am a BIG baby and they always hurt me no matter what. It went in easily but my cervix bled when they inserted it so they had to cauterize it which made the procedure take a couple of minutes longer (that didn't hurt at all either).
It hurt even less to have it taken out.
Expect to have a decent amount of bleeding/spotting the first 6 months if you have regular cycles.
ETA: I will say that I complained about bloating which I thought was a side effect but turns out that once I stopped drinking milk the bloating went away so it was unrelated.

Re: Ladies who use Mirena
I've had it for about 7 months. So far so good!
I had a little spotting for the first month. One or two regular periods, and then nothing since.
The procedure wasn't terrible. It hurt, but not a lot, and I had some cramping after.

Re: Ladies who use Mirena
Do you like it? LOVE IT!
Any side effects at all? None. I held off DTD for awhile cause I was sore and felt unsure. After I got over that.. I'm good to go ;)
How are your periods? What periods? I had heavy spotting (which was annoying) for a few months. I think I had one real period in the beginning. That heavy spotting meant no need for tampons (i'm always afraid of toxic shock) so it annoyed me to be on a pad. Then it just 'stopped'. Freaked me out, I though I got preggers on some odd chance, but nope. Nothing. I got mine in Oct 2010 and my last period was in April 2011. Now that I have none, those few months were TOTALLY worth it!
Did it hurt when it was inserted Wasn't fun. Worst cramping ever. But it was short lived. I have had my cervix frozen before and that was way worse. I wouldn't volunteer to do that procedure more than once every year or 5yrs (thank god)
Overall, loving it. Just took those first 6months to get along with it.

Re: Ladies who use Mirena
I had it put in 6 months ago. The first 2 weeks I had mild spotting and then I didn't get a period for 3 months. I thought I was going to be one of the lucky ones and never get AF again, but sadly that didn't happen. Now I get AF for at least 6 days and it's really light. I'm also getting REALLY bad cramps a couple of days before AF comes. Bloating? YES! I've never had cramps or bloating this bad before. I was on the pill or nuvaring for 12+ years so it could just be that controlled it. I really have no idea how my body reacts without BC.
It hurt terribly when it was put in. I had read that it was supposed to hurt so I braced myself for it, but the actual insertion wasn't the problem. 5 minutes after they put it in I got cramps so bad that it felt like I was in labor again. They subsided after 30 minutes, but I was not prepared for it.
It's been nice not to have to worry about BC and to have less hormones in my system, but I don't know if I would get it again. I'm going to have it taken out in January.

Re: Ladies who use Mirena
I had it put in 2 months ago. I'm not going to lie, it hurt like a MO-FO when the doc put it in. I was cramping heavily (like labor) for about an hour. I really didn't expect it to hurt so badly. I also bled a LOT that first night. I also experienced nausea for about a week afterwards. I was miserable and really second guessed my decision.
But I am here 2 months later LOVING it!!!! I've had spotting on and off and the first period with it lasted a long 10 days on and off. It would come, go, come, go.... I'm still experiencing spotting here and there, but I know it'll end soon.
No bloating, no weight gain (other than my poor eating habits ) and overall, I'm very happy with it. 5 years of not having to do a thing is priceless if you ask me!

Re: Ladies who use Mirena
I attempted to have the Mirena put in 2 months ago. It hurt like nothing I've ever experienced before. It took the dr a long time to get it in and it was extremely painful.
I had a follow up 2 weeks afterwards with a sono to make sure it was in the correct place. I had pain for 2 weeks and spotting. Well lo and behold I went in for the sono and the tech could not find the Mirena in my uterus. Turns out it was stuck at my cervix and never actually made it into the uterus. My uterus is tilted so when the dr felt resistance he thought it was where it should be. It wasn't and they had to take it out.
I've been too scared to go back and get it put in again because it hurt really bad. Maybe because I have a tilted uterus.
I want to eventually go back because BCP make me feel like cr*p. I know a couple of people who have it and they like it. One of my friends said she had spotting for a couple of months but then was fine.

How are your periods? I've had the Mirena since March 2009. DS was born Dec 2008. My last period was November 2009. I had heavy periods the first 2 months and then it got lighter and lighter and now I don't have a periods any more.
Did it hurt when it was inserted?
It was uncomfortable and hurt only slightly more than a pap. I took Motrin and the pain was gone.
I LOVE not having to think about a pill everyday and I LOVE not having a period.

I had to pay $175 for it through my insurance. They covered the rest (I think the doc said it usually costs $800/900)

Re: Ladies who use Mirena
Had it for 5 years. Loved it. No issues with getting it in or out. I spotted for a month after getting it, and then nothing (no periods) for 5 years. I had it out after 5 years and haven't decided if I will get it again. But I definitely recommend it.
