Laid Off / Severance Question
I haven't been laid off but I'm just preparing for the worst. My company is going down hill fast and there are rumors that (another) round of lay offs are coming. I think I'm safe but you just never know.
My question is about the severance package. They offer them to who ever they have to lay off. Is that negotiable? Has anyone had experience with this?
I'm sure in the heat of the moment I may be emotional and not be thinking straight so I'm trying to be as mentally prepared as possible.
Thanks so much for any advice.

Usually severance packages are based on how long you have worked there.
My severance package was not negotiable.

Same here. We were given a certain amount based upon how long we were there - no negotiation.
My severance package was not negotiable.

Laid Off / Severance Question
Generally its as discussed above.
The only time something would be negotiable is if you're giving them something. ie: they want to retain you for 3 months to train new staff, or as a consulting agreement. Even then it may not be negotiable, but there can be give and take there since you are actually providing them something in the future.
