Laid off today (at 35 weeks!)
I knew it was coming. I'm actually quite relieved. A little scared at having to pay Cobra, but otherwise looking forward to being home for a while.
Andrew will finish at his current day care on 8/30 and then he'll start nursery school (PT) on 9/10. I hope I can adjust to being a temporary SAHM to my newborn come next month.

Re: Laid off today (at 35 weeks!)
I was fired at 38 weeks and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. We have my DH's insurance and I get unemployment.
Are you getting a package? Unemployment?

Re: Laid off today (at 35 weeks!)
i was laid off at 28 weeks pregnant 2 weeks after i announced i was pregnant. i fought for what i believed was right and got them to pay me till i gave birth, then maternity, severance and then i collected unemployment. i was up for a promotion, recieved awards the month before. praised all the time. told them i was pregnant diagnosed iwth placenta previa and asked to work from home 1 day a week. they let me for two weeks and then cut my job saying that my position for the follwing year was changing and i was no longer qualified. you should see what can be done for you.

I remember reading your story. I got a package -- 50% of my annual salary which was part of a retention bonus to stay on (since the company was being sold) and 4 weeks of severance.
I tried to fight for getting them to pay my benefits through the end of the year, but they didn't budge.
I will file for unemployment.

Even with the cost of the baby, I spend SO much less not commuting. Unemployment is like $190 less than my weekly pay was, BUT I'm not paying for daycare, commuting, etc, etc.
It sounds like they are being fair enough. The benefits part stinks though, can you get benefits through DH's job?

So sorry... I was just thinking of you. I can't believe your baby girl will be here soon. YOu know I am right around the corner, let me know if you need anything - from a sitter to baby gear. I have it all.
Where is Andrew going to Preschool? I wonder if he'll be at the same school as my Andrew ??

Thanks Trish! If I recall, you're sending Andrew to St. Dominics? Andrew will be going to North Shore Day School in Glen Cove. I am so happy to pull him from his current day care because he's been miserable.

Not in my case. My company was sold last year and the new company took over in May and since they're based in LA, they are basically closing down my entire office.

DH is in real estate and doesn't have any benefits. I asked him to look into the broker associations, etc. to see if anything is offered, but he hasn't bothered.
