Lake Placid? - UPDATED w/REVIEW
Any advice on things to do, places to go & see?
I'm heading up there for a long weekend tomorrow.
Thanks!

Lake Placid Review
Had a great time in LP! Can't wait to go back.
We stayed at the Lake Placid Crowne Plaza Resort & Golf Club. Very nice hotel. We also took note that it's a great place to stay with kids too. They have a pool, game room and the hotel is dog friendly! Although odds are we would rent a home with the kids (we've even discussed buying a vacation home in ADK.)
Other places in the Adirondacks that we visited: Long Lake Tupper Lake Saranac Keene
Places we ate (and drank ) at : *Great Adirondack Brewing Company *Lake Placid Pub & Brewery (they had the best mac & cheese! plus you can get your mixed drinks in a pint glass. ) *Fireside Steak House *Pete's Steakhouse (we didn't have the opportunity to eat here, we just had drinks. Next time! ) *Noon Mark Diner (DH raved about this place. He and his hunting buddies would stop there when heading to and from their camp for the week. OMG! Their french toast was awesome, then I had a bite of DH's bacon, egg & cheese...I ended up getting one to go! )

Re: Lake Placid?
Some photos:
View of LP from the opposite side of Mirror Lake
our hotel up on the hill
views from our room
some pics showing the snow
One of DH's favorite spots is where the Bog River flows into Big Tupper: Bog River
(you can slide down the rocks into a 6' pool of water)
Big Tupper beyond the bridge
check point to access the road to drive to the peak of Whiteface. Unfortunately for us, it was closed. :( (It closed the week prior to us getting there. The dude in the pic was with a couple of buddies and they were getting ready to bike it.)
Near High Falls Gorge (DH showing me he can walk the "Balance Beam" )

I love Lake Placid! The Noon Mark Diner is legendary! We go every time we are up there!
Next time, you have to go to Nicola's on Main ... delicious!

It looks amazing. I would love to go, but I don't think I'd do that skiing and diving thing

From Manhattan with NO TRAFFIC ... About 4 1/2 hours ... but that will never happen, ever. I mean you have to do that without stopping, doing 70 with no one in front of you
I vote 5-1/2 to 6-1/2 hours
I live in Queens and it is about 300-325 miles round trip.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you're training for the olympics. (that's their training center. )

It took us 6 hours on the way home (to Huntington) w/2 stops at rest areas for food, etc..
It took us a little longer on the way up, but that's because we didn't go directly up to Placid, but went towards Long Lake first.
