Lots of people who took the Lamaze classes told us not to do it. Not worth the $$$ and time.

Re: lamaze? is it worth it? (winthrop)
I took it nearly 3 years ago before I had my first. I ended up taking the class and also getting my money refunded because we all showed up for the first class and the instructors did not! But they did run all classes, so we stuck with it.
In any case, I took the class and came out with a lot of info I did not know, especially about pain meds, the epidurals, spinals, etc., when c/s would be considered, etc. We got to tour L&D and learn a little bit about how things work there. That I found very helpful. The two instructors were very nice and knowledgeable.
On the other hand... the breathing that they make you practice, well, all DH and I did was laugh our azzes off. We couldn't keep straight faces through it.
Its really up to you. I guess I might be saying a different tune if we ended up paying for it. Luckily for their scheduling mistake, we did not.

Re: lamaze? is it worth it? (winthrop)
I have someone coming to the house on sunday, she is doing a private lamaze class. The class is $200 and is approximately 4 hours long. I procrastinated and wasnt able to do the classes through the hospital, b/c they take a few weeks and I only have 2 weeks to go. Hopefully it will be worth it

Most people I talk to say they took the class and it wasn't worth it - but they're glad they did for the experience. I think we're going to go....just in case it does come in handy.

I agree with this. The breathing was lame and but I am glad I went I also think it helped DH know what will happen so he wasnt surprised. The tour was really helpful because I knew where to go when I was in labor. I didnt think it was waste.

Re: lamaze? is it worth it? (winthrop)
I never took lamaze, but I felt like yoga and working out helped with my breathing and relaxation. I also felt like my body really let me know what to do...I just kind of *knew* when to push and how to breathe. Several of my friends had the same feelings. One of my friends that enjoyed lamaze/ founs it helpful, recommended a doula...
