Landscaping

Right now I could beat my DH, early this summer he got this crazy idea to rip ALL of the shurbs and plants from the front of the house with the intentions to replace them in the fall. Well, it turns out that the shrubs are going to cost almost $2700 + $1500 if we want the nursery to install them! I am so freakin ******! Because now the front of my house looks like total bare crap and I guess it's going to have to stay this way for a while!

Re: Landscaping

They do cost a lot of money, and you have to also consider they add $$ on for the labor.

Re: Landscaping

why not plant some fall flowers for now - or do something with some pumpinks/hay for fall...

I feel you on your landscaping pains - we totally redid our front lawn last year - and have to do our backyard too - but we are stalling because of the money.

Nope and it is hard labor too.... I am hoping when we do the siding to get a professional landscaper in althogh DH will SAY HE wants to do it....I know it won't get done.

Maybe for the fall, some hay and stuff. I have a neighbor who ripped everyhting out about 2 years ago and STILL has not done a thing...and her house is a pukey mustardy color...

Good luck!! Maybe start off with 1 or 2 bushes and add gradually??

Re: Landscaping

Why dont you go to cheap sams and get the bushes and trees yourself? you will save a lot of money that way and have your DH dig and plant himself!!!!! thats what my DH did- we have a landscaper but I wasnt going to give him the money when DH is capable of doing it! Im sure my landscaper wouldnt have charged much either and it was fun to work together too.

Re: Landscaping

I thought Cheap Sams didn't sell to the general public, only contractors. Does it?

Any simple ideas what we can do with this mess? External Image

The unilock has been completed. I take a picture later and post so it doesn't that bad. But it's still pretty bad.

We just did the SAME THING! We basically tore out ALL of the plants on our front lawn INCLUDING 5 very big trees....We just replanted shrubs ourselves...we spend about $1200 on just plants/bushes. We checked out cheap sams they have a GREAT selection and you can drive through w/ your car. But we wound up using a diff nursery because they helped us pick the plants that we were looking for PLUS laid it out for us so that we could visually see it.

PLUS this time of year is great for planting because most places have everything on sale. We spent all that money and that was with 25% off!!! Plus the landscaping we did this fall is only phase 1. It was all the evergreen and "background" plants. Next year we will add more and probably add an island to the front lawn.

Good Luck to you. You can def save a lot of money if you have time to do it yourself!

Re: Landscaping

I dont have any advice but am just saying Good Luck, I hope you come up with something that will stop you from strangling your DH. My DH wants to do the same thing, we have alot of greenery around the house and he just wants some small bushes, I am glad he never went out and did it b/c we wouldnt be able to put out that kind of money for new landscaping.
