laproscopy

I had a few questions about laproscopy surgery.
I went to my RE yesterday and he said that I might have an endometrial cyst on my left ovary that may need to be removed through laproscopy surgery. He feels that this cyst might be affecting my cycles and so when I "O" it is not mature enough to do anything. (Something about the hormones from the cyst might be affecting ovulation... Is that possible? Has anyone ever been told that?) He wants to see me again next week to confirm his thoughts and then possibly make an appt. for the surgery. I am really scared and nervous!!
My questions are:
Is the surgery painful? Are you in any pain after the surgery? How long does it take to heal? Do you have to wait a while after to start IUI's? And if this is an endometrial cyst, do they come back?
TIA for all of your help!!!! I greatly appreciate any information that you can share with me!!
GL to everyone and thanks again!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: laproscopy

I had a laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, D and C and tubal lavage at the same time. I had also had a previous lap surgery before. Lap surgeries are very precise and not as invasive as one may think. You will experience some discomfort, but shouldn't have horrible excruciating pain. then again, everyone is different.

I did not have cysts so I cant address that question.

My doctor had me wait one full cycle after surgery to start IUIs. Every doctor will tell you something different based on your healing and your situation.

Any questions, feel free to FM me.

Re: laproscopy

I had lap surgery with a hystoscopy and D&C last year. I had no pain at all, but then I didn't have a cyst. They just removed a small amount of scar tissue in my uterus, so they really didn't do much on me except put two holes in my body. Which a year later, you cannot even see anymore. Went through the belly button and right on top of the pub. line. The first 3 days you are kinda groggy but by day 4 I felt myself. Though I took it easy for the week, went back and all was good. I actually started my first IUI cycle when I got AF. And even stranger it did not mess with my cycle at all. I got AF on the day I would have. OH, most people experience heavy gas pains in their shoulders because when they do the lap they pump air in so they can see what they are doing. So, later the body needs to get rid of it, if you know what I mean. Before my surgery I had read that you should put pillows under your feet when you are recovering to alleviate the pain. And I didn't have any so it must have worked. And you'll get some nice photos of your insides. It's gross looking at them at first, but then you start to think, wow...cool...is that my liver. I did not show those pics to DHChat Icon

Good luck. And I say the best part is that you go to sleep and wake up and its all over.

Re: laproscopy

I had lapro for an ectopic pregnancy last year. I don't know how my experience will relate since they removed one of my tubes and that probably caused me pain. I was in moderate pain for about 3 days-the gas pain also was bad so I would see if you could take something for that-they blow air into your stomach so they can see better. I felt much better after those 3 days and within a week I was pretty much back to normal. i am pregnant now and where the scar is in my belly button is sort of sore but nothing I can't handle.

I would ask what is the risk to your ovary with this type of surgery. Good luckChat Icon

Yes, I forgot about the bloat from the air as well. You may experience facial as well as abdominal bloat and a small weight gain as a result. It should go away - mine did.

Re: laproscopy

I had it done and thought that the gas was the most painful part of the whole procedure. I just had mild cramps that night and the next day. But my chest and shoulders hurt more. I couldn't lay down that night and slept sitting up on the couch reclined. The nurse told me to heat up gingerale in the microwave and drink that all day. It helped alittle but it took me like 2 days for my upper body to feel better. Good Luck!
